I thought I remember someone mentioning that there is a company or person on here that installs a Duramax in an H1 for 7K?

Is this right?   If so send me their way.

maybe 7k labor? The labor for a 6.5 swap is around $4k. I''d stick with the companies with a good rep saving a few buck now might be buying you trouble for years to come. Getting an Alpha is one thing, but I never really figured out why everyone wants to drop $25k+ into a d-max swap.

be very cautious about the install places.... Alien on the HML recently was taken for a lot of money and never did get his Dmax conversion done... he lives in NY, the conversion company was in CO and now hes taking it to Predator in CA to get done.... a LOT of head ache and in the end I am sure he will have lost thousands....

had to be for labor only and my bet is whoever gave the price thinks it is a plug and play afair, not realizing the enormous amount of work involved to get it in and the fact that the transmission and transfer case swap too.

Yeah I figured it would be 7k in labor.  Yyou can get a durmax tranny and case for around 4k.

I''m not looking for a show quality swap just somehting that will work great.

From my undertsanding the swap is somewhat more involved that your basic chevy 4x4 engine/tranny swap out. There are cooling issues, wiring harness issues, etc. all kind of stuff that have to be accounted for. Watch the video of Predator getting one ready to swap and you will see what I am talking about, they take off the entire body!

There was a company , Twisted Diesel that offered cheap duramax conversions for h1, but they''re out of business now and are facing many lawsuits. They advertised conversions for very cheap.

I''m wary of any cheap duramax conversions for our trucks, it''s a real big deal to get everything working together. You usually have to lift the truck a bit to get things to fit, plus you need to upgrade cooling, trans, transfer case, etc. One big part is to get all the electronics to talk to each other, and to make sure things pass CARB/EPA which was brought up on another forum.

It''s not a drop in and go conversion, after observing the process, I know why labor usually runs 15,000 to 30,000 for these jobs.

If I were to swap to a non 6.5 engine, I''d go with a cummins.

i''ll third the cummins.... there is less parts, electronics and the parts are cheaper. Not to mention just how solid the cummins block is.

The Cummins is ok but I''m a V-8 diesel fan.  Plus I thought I read some where that you have to put a 2" body lift on to install a Cummins.

2" body lift is required for both a Dmax and older style Cummins. If you want the new Common Rail cummins it requires about 3-4" body lift.

I remember watching a Charlston Traction Company video and they said the Cummins is only 4 cylnder and 155 HP, so what draws people to it? fuel efficiency? torque?

If you couldn''t go all the way with the duramax, I can''t see changing from the 6.5. At least you could continue to get parts for it out of the AMG book on the H-1, vs. having a one of a kind set-up.
