We paid off our H3 Alpha a bit early last week.  Mrs. Patches and I despise car payments so we decided to pay off the small balance left on the Alpha I ordered last September.  And we''re hanging on to it.

I absolutely love my H3 and regardless of the rumblings in the media about GM unloading the Hummer brand and the bad press the H3 has received (albeit undeserved), there is no way I''m parting with it.  It has been utterly reliable, surprisingly comfortable, amazingly utilitarian and just plain fun to drive in the 7 months I''ve owned it.  I get lots more questions and comments about my H3 than my two Vettes and my friends are always surprised with it''s rich-looking, luxurious accomodations and unexpectedly decent gas mileage.

Frankly, I''m tired of people making uninformed judgments about someone based solely on the car they drive.  Quite often, these self-serving busy-bodies are the same folks who commute in a small four-banger but drive 4 times farther than I do, and so, actually use more gas than I do per week.  I know people who were spending $100-$200 a week in gas before this last major price-gouging spree to $4/gal.  I was spending less than that per month on my H3 and still am easily under $200 with the $4 price.  Now who is the guzzler?

I''m sure there will be a few casualties among us in the coming austere months but I''ll bet that there will many more survivors right alongside me and maybe even a few converts.  I''ll keep my H3, thank you very much.  Best of luck to Hummer and the General from a GM household.

Big fat ditto!

I have an ''06 with a five speed that gets 20-22 MPG. I love throwing that little statistic at all the Prius huggers that call me a gas hog. Like you, I commute a very short distance to work (ten miles) where the majority of my coworkers travel up to a hundred miles (no exaggeration).

I am keeping my H3, not only because I love driving it, but it is cost effective.

I am also committed to Hummer.  As for Hummer possibly selling the brand I truly think its their own fault.  GM has done a terrible job marketing the Hummer.  Why do people think these vehicles are so expensive.  I dont know how many times people come up to me and say you must be rich to drive a Hummer.  For crying out loud my 2007 Hummer Offr oad addition was cheaper than a JK Wrangler.  I also here "How can you afford to drive this Hummer with gas prices so expensive"?  Again, I have the 3.7 and my Hummer is getting about 19MPG on the Highway.  Why dont people know this?  In my opinion if Hummer did a better job marketing the awesome product they have they may not be in the situation they are in.

I''m proud to drive my Hummer, I''ll continue to support them even if they get sold off to another company.  I won''t be getting rid of my H3 anytime.  I can see me hanging on to this just to go off roading in until it rusts out.
I would still like to buy the Hx if they are ever going to bring that out.

I drove my H2 for 5 years and traded it in for my new H3 last September.  I am loving it.  I may keep this one longer.  To me it will always look cool.

Cool Patches!   Very good point on the gas guzzling and mileage actually driven.

I think the press hype and public paranoia it has been creating is ridiculous.  I''m old enough to tell you I have seen this all before, the bubble will burst eventually, and I personally hope that when it does some of the commodity investers that jumped out of the stock market to make a killing in oil get burned along the way.

I do have one suggestion for Hummer, and have made it before:  how about a 2wd transfer case selection?????  I have to think, if you take out the mandatory AWD to allow us to run 2wd on dry pavement by selecting that T case position will boost mpg by 1+ very easily?  We could still run AWD when the weather and road conditions require it.
