AND they also stole the rearview mirror that had the backup screen. I''m looking at $1,700 to replace all this and it doesn''t seem worth it for the small picture the mirrors screen gave me. My question is can I just buy a rearview mirror with the temp and compass (which the original backup mirror had) and hook it up to the original wiring and have the temp and compass work? I''m just going to botch the backup camera set up if I can get the compass and temp in a regular Hummer mirror. Does anyone know if that will work?

Get the dealer estimate and collect the check and then buy the parts from gmpartshouse.com.

maybe the theif heard someone and bailed. anywa, wouldnt insurance cover it??

Not sure on the wiring harness being compatable but I bet someone can make it work.

You didn''t mention any other damage or theft. How did they get into the Hummer?

I guess I''m trying to not turn this in to the insurance company, they will surely raise my rates with a claim. The Hummer was unlocked, the mirror inside just has a set screw and one snip with the cutters and the mirror is out. The rear camera is in the bumper, so it was an easy nab too. The camera/rearview mirror system wasn''t the greatest design considering the small screen that popped out of the riew view mirror, so it''s just not worth the cash to me to replace it. I DO however want the temp and compass that is in the mirror, that''s why I''m hoping a standard mirror would wire right up and function properly. Any ideas?

Think of the $$$$$ that you have paid the insurance co. they shouldn''t go up on something this small. I would file the claim get the money and if you want put in the standard mirror and then add some "BLING". only way i''d never file is if it didn''t meet the deductable.

Ah Hum........hello. Danny.....how many insurance companies do business in GA?????

If, note I said if, you make a claim and they raise your rate (common public misconception to be sure), you cancel after they pay and move on to the next company.
They certainly have no loyalty to you, why would you not make a claim after paying your premiums??? IGNI?
