Anyone care to explain what happens when a domain name becomes free?

Or what happens to all of the data contained on that site?

Hey IK, can you explain what exactly has happened?

The last I heard, it was an upgrade gone bad and partially failed restore.

All I know, and we were just told this in the Mod room about 20 minutes ago is that they know what is wrong but don''t want to rush in with a quick fix that may or may not wipe out the enitire site. They are looking into ways to fix the problem and to upgrade the site without losing everything

I wonder if this will even work. I''ve lost a number of big posts and I pretty much quit - again.

When a domaine name expires or becomes free the site or data that was accessable through that domain is still where it always was, on a server hard drive with the hosting company but is no longer accessable by the public.

Many things can go wrong including drive failure, server failure or most commonly software errors. I''m sure we all know how many things can go wrong with a computer and how damn frustrating it can be sometimes to find the exact cause even for professionals especially if it is some type of software conflict. p {margin:0px;}
