I work at Valley Cadillac Hummer in Rochester, N.Y. I would only repair the truck if it had duplicatable conditions for a head replacement. I would not worry about it till somthing happens. A P.I. is a Preliminary Information bulletin. Not all trucks will have problems that are in that VIN range and there is a possibilty there was only a small number on heads within that vin range that have soft seats. Just because there is a P.I. or Bulletin does not mean every truck has to have it performed. If it were a campaign all trucks within the vin range would have the repair done. Like I said in previus posts I have only done 2 trucks so far. Steve

PS... to my initial posts - the service writer who took care of me informed me that he had seen many in with the same problem, and that it seemed to be a common occurrence. Which obviously leads me to believe that they have seen more than they care to. This was however, before I stumbled upon this forum and discovered that this is an issue, so I did not think to ask him how many. I have every confidence that they will repair it properly <crossing fingers> but my only concern is future problems reoccurring.

I also have a question if anyone would be so kind as to help inform me. Since I cannot
Because it is IN the Hummer - IN the shop, and I couldn't seem to find exact answers on the Internet. What all exactly is considered to be part of the "drivetrain/powertrain" (I always thought it was the transmission, but am not sure) and is covered under warranty since the drivetrain warranty is 5 yr/100K (isn't it?) Is this an issue covered under that? Sorry guys, I am just trying not to be one of those ditzy women who knows NOTHING about mechanics and vehicles (including that one should change the oil every so often LOL!)

STILL LOVIN MY LITTLE HUMMER!

Thanks for the info Steve!

Good question LawWyfe - I'd like to know the answer to that as well. If it were covered under the "drivetrain/powertrain -5 yr/100K" that would give me some peace of mind.

Dennis I'm with you on the issue - I'm not gonna worry about it until I have a reason too. What's the point?? Not like I can do anything about it before hand. If it happens I'll be really upset. All that said: I listen for every little hiccup, burp ... you name it, too!! But, only sometimes ... for the most part I just enjoy driving it!!

Hi Sarah ~

Please call me Paige

It would make me extremely uneasy if I were 2000 miles away from home and something happened! It worries me sometimes driving to the lake and that's only 100 miles away! LOL! I do always have one of my dogs with me, he's my traveling partner. I attached his photo ~

As a girl I don't want to be stranded alone on the side of the road or anywhere for that matter... nothing fun about that!! It's just plain scary!!

LawWyfe, The 2006 H3 is covered bumper to bumper minus wear items for 4 years or 50k whichever occurs first. The 5 year 100k Powertrain warranty did not start till 2007 model year and covers quite a bit like engine, transmission, transfer case, rear axle, front axle, drive shafts and outer wheel bearings. GM must have confidence in there products to put that type of warranty on all those items I listed.
Some areas may see more of this head concern than others and it may be that some dealers got more of the ones with the soft valve seats. We have been lucky on this as only 2 have been done. The good news if you need a head replacement the new head will not have the problem. So far these trucks have been good as a whole. We have seen some electronics issues like wheel speed sensors, transfer case mode accuater problems and have seen 2 front axles torn up (I have no idea how that happened). Steve

Nice looking (very hairy LOL) dog you got there Paige. What kind is he? I see you are near my Folks. I get up to Rockdale Co. a couple times a year to visit them..perhaps some day we can get together and compare Hummers. In fact GA (mountains in the NE part) is where my H3 ran amuck. I lied - I was 1000 miles away from home (2000 RT). Good luck on yours and hopefully she will continue to be as reliable as mine had been before this and hey, she did manage to get me home OK! Mwuaah to her - can you tell I LOVE MY HUMMER? LOL!

Sure we could get together. We're only 10 miles (if that) from Conyers. I just got back from Toccoa a couple weeks ago. The trees were so beautiful!! I'd love to live up there!

Blu is an Australian Shepherd mix of some type. So we've been told ... maybe some border collie and rottweiler too. He's a pound mutt, got him when he was only 6/8 weeks old at the pound. He was found on the side of the road. Then not long after I picked up a dog on the side of the road, turned out she was pregnant. After I got her I took her straight to the vet, she was covered in fleas and ticks. Anywho, the vet said I had a month before the pups came so I started my search of a rescue to take her. No one would ... everyone was full with katrina pups. Then to my surprise, 7 days later she had her pups. I had to keep two of the pups. Now there are four!! We're a big happy family! I'm a softy ... I'll try to pick up any cat or dog I see on the side of the road. If it doesn't run from me, it's getting in the hummer with me. I'll find it a home, if it's the last thing I do! Blu's my traveling buddy, the girls don't really care to go and two of them still puke.

You can speak with any rep... they will ultimatley call your service department to discuss any maintenance which may have taken place... If you are cool with the service people it always helps.

I do not have bumper to bumper, it is powertrain... which I am completely cool with

YAY!!! Got my little girl back today! OK I know you guys are doing the big <eyeroll> LOL! They had her 1 week and when they called me to tell me she would be ready this afternoon, I said, "by the way she needs an oil change so please do "comp" me one!" They did. They bent over backwards to be good to me and then they delivered her back home to me this evening.

Now in answer to Dennis's post...I spoke with GM Cadillac/Hummer Customer assistance today and after some aggressive pleading, they say they are going to give me a 7 yr/100,000 mile warranty. That is on the engine and anything related to this issue. It is not bumper to bumper (and I don't care, all i wanted was peace of mind on this issue.)...so those of you who got yours extended - you might want to double check it.

The contact info is: Adrien (male) Baxter and he seemed quite willing to work with me - perhaps because I was not asking for the world (all I wanted was engine peace of mind) and I had also refused the rental car they offered me saving them some $$ because I am lucky enough to have other vehicles to drive and they needed driven. I was refused the 1st time by someone else I spoke with a couple days ago. With all that being said..IF you have this issue too..stick to your guns and contact them and ask for it!!!
