Has anyone gone through the winter with an aftermarket locking fuel filler door?  Any recommendations?  With the external lock I'm a bit concerned about icing it up during our long winters.

Thanks!

Hello friend,
I reside in the north east coast and we have long cold winters.
I have had absolutly no problem with my locking fuel door.
I ocasionally spray some "WD-40" into the lock to keep it lubbed.
And I ocasionally wipe the exterior cover with a very lightly oiled rag.
Since I noticed some running dry streaks where all the factory decorative rivets are.
I guess this is normal for these aftermarket covers.
But overall, I have had no problems with it or the lock seizing in the dead of cold.
Keep us posted!

Which one did you buy?  There are lots of different ones available.

I work with a bunch of greenies and I figure the filler door would make a nice trophy for some Birkenstock wearing granola type.

I purchased my no name aftermarket locking fuel door through ebay.
Model #5877 Part #41-3110. Although it did not supply the installation instructions, but I managed to get the installation instructions on-line of a brand name from "BULLY TRUCK ACCESSORIES" They are all installed the same way. This is the web site. http://imagehost.vendio.com/bin/imageserver.x/00000000/streetflame/instructions_gd110c.gif
No drilling required and it takes about 20 to 30 minutes depends on how mechanicly inclind you are.
keep us posted.

My old h2 had a chrome fuel door from my dealer. After a year or two''s winter the lock (it had a little key and lock) actually rusted to the point I could not get the key in to open it!!!  There were little allen wrench nuts around the thing holding it in, I had to unscrew them all to get to the gas tank.

Yes, that''s what I''m afraid of.  I''ve found two different ones with the round/tubular style keys, I wonder if they would hold up better?
