As people above have said, this all has to do with the price of gas, and people panicing don''t want to go out and buy a hummer thats for sure. They now have a cadillac escalade hybrid which is the same engine as the h2. Offer every hummer in a hybrid model and regular model and people won''t be so scared of hummers and they would actually get alot more sales.

GM is moving forward with plans to possibly sell its Hummer brand. The automaker is telling dealers today that it has secured a broker to shop the brand to potential buyers, according to sources familiar with the plans.

This isn''t good news.  GM is hurting and is too eager to downsize.

Hummer is now officially for sale.

GM has put its Hummer brand up for sale to prospective buyers thought to include Mahindra & Mahindra (MAHM.BO), but the SUV brand is expected to fetch far less than $1 billion in any sale.

General Motors Corp (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) is not planning a sale of any of its brands other than the Hummer line of SUVs, GM''s North American sales chief said in an e-mail to the automaker''s U.S. dealers.

Mark LaNeve, GM''s vice president for North American sales and marketing, said none of GM''s brands other than Hummer were up for sale or being considered as candidates for closure, despite growing speculation to the contrary.

"I have been asked by the media if other brands were undergoing a similar strategic review. My answer then and now was the same no," LaNeve said in his e-mail.

The problem for GM is that, despite a decade of profits on the truck side of its business, it now sees its future primarily in passenger cars. The company management is betting that cheap gas will never come back and that promoting the virtues of a brand that averages less than 15 miles per gallon probably isn''t worth the cost. So the Hummer is being picked to pieces by bean counters, an ignominious fate for a vehicle that''s the street-legal version of the warrior class.
Unfortunately, GM is rapidly managing itself into a shadow of what was once the greatest manufacturing enterprise ever created.

At first glance, it appears to be an appealing match. Chinese automakers are eager to enter the North American market, the world''s largest, and the problems at General Motors and Ford are deepening. GM shares are at a 54-year low, and Ford was forced by slumping sales to abandon its profit goal for 2009. But Chinese automakers, from SAIC Motor to Chery Automobile, responded coolly when GM shopped around its Hummer unit and Ford reviewed the prospects for Volvo. "We haven''t had any discussions at the management level to consider either Volvo or Hummer," said Jin Yibo, a spokesman for Chery, a fast-growing maker of inexpensive cars.

General Motors Corp has heard from some bidders interested in buying its Hummer SUV brand and is moving as quickly as possible toward a potential deal, Chief Executive Rick Wagoner said on Friday.

"We have some interested buyers, and I can''t tell you anything beyond that right now but we are moving as fast as we can," Wagoner told reporters in Pontiac, Michigan, on the sidelines of an event to mark the opening of a new GM engineering and development center.
