ok, just trying to get beter mpg. Does anybody know, if there is something to unplug 4x4 and go with just front wheel drive ? It would be a huge help ...I don't need 4x4 on freeway for example (know ford explorer have it and it helps)
Thanks four reply

Stop by the local bar to get your tank filled up.

100 miles per pint of Guinness.

how abouu urea hummBob, some of the future diesels will be using that to clean up their emissions.  Suggestion to disable the AWD remove the fron driveshaft?  dont know what side effects thatll have but it will put you into 2wd.

Don't know on the H3s but people are doing the 2x4x conversion on the H2 and H1s. I hear as much as a 4 mpg improvement in mileage.

I don't know what they are doing but I'm not going to remove my front driveshaft and then put it back in whenever I want to go wheeling. If there's some sort of electronic disconnect - well, I'll let someone else do it first. It seems like you'd also have to disable the Stability System everytime you started the vehicle or it could freak out anytime there was wheelspin or anything else that would activate the Stab System.

Thats why the old 4x4's had locking front hubs and a transfer case so you could run in 4x2 and save wear and tear and increase gas mileage

I stopped at the local 4x4 shop here about 2 weeks ago and asked them about this. I really don't remember all of the technical parts (sorry) but the answer was yes AND no. He basically said that for what it would cost to do it right your gains wouldn't make up the difference. Something about not being able to stop it from spinning up front without swapping out the entire axle. IDK. I will ask again and get you a better answer when I go back down there in about a week. They are getting a 4wheel dyno and the ability to tune the PCM.
