Electric Fan Conversion Kit on eBay

hummerjim -> Electric Fan Conversion Kit on eBay (5/24/2008 5:25:14 PM)

Does anyone have any experience with how much these kits actually increase MPG?

It doesn't seem like my stock fan would be robbing that much power, but I guess at 4$ per a small percentage would make a difference....

For $600 I don't think the gas savings would pay for the parts. I would buy them because you want a tad better performance and cooling not for gas savings. Your probably gonna gain 10 horsepower. $60 air intake kit on ebay is probably best bang for your buck if your looking to bump hp / gas milage. Of course along with the free things like: check your tire pressure every few weeks, take off roof racks, remove spare tire and carrier for 300 lb weight savings, etc etc

I would not expect an mpg increase.

dwaxman1 -> RE: Electric Fan Conversion Kit on eBay (5/26/2008 5:47:27 AM)

I think it may give you a bit more HP but not too much better MPGs

hummerjim -> RE: HP vs. MPG? (5/26/2008 2:01:13 PM)

Shouldn't increased HP mean more gas milage if you drive the same speed?

As in it takes less gas to create HP x and if HP x is the amount of power used to reach Speed y you would be using less gas to go Speed y?

I have no experience with motors but am just wondering if there's a difference....

It's worth doing.... but for $600 you could make your own kit out of summit... and still have cash left over for other mods..

TRUBRIT -> RE: HP vs. MPG? (5/27/2008 10:45:31 AM)

I think you would be better off going with the Chevy one. At least you know it will fit and work with the H2 wiring.

from the www:
ELECTRIC FANS
A step beyond merely replacing the factory radiator fan is upgrading to an electric fan. Flex-A-Lite manufactures electric fans that push air through the radiator as well as fans that pull air through. Electric fans are activated when the water temperature reaches a pre-determined point. They can also be activated manually. The greatest advantage for running an electric fan is retaining horsepower. Because an electric fan operates independently from the engine rather than driven by it. When you look at the engine bay of many high-performance vehicles, you’ll notice the widespread acceptance of electric fans.

from various estimates  ; 27 HP gain and 6% increase in MPG ( 1 MPG )

Muddydawg75 -> RE: HP vs. MPG? (5/27/2008 4:37:27 PM)

I saw Dyno numbers on a Ford Ranger of 24 hp....

Hummeron37s -> RE: HP vs. MPG? (5/29/2008 8:21:52 AM)

It will run more efficient I dont think you will see a mpg difference, if you put a cold air intake on the truck, you are allowing more air, so you should in reality use more fuel. I think the best option is a programmer, they are around $300 and you can set your fuel trims and ratios.

dwaxman1 -> RE: HP vs. MPG? (5/29/2008 10:07:49 AM)

makes sense

Muddydawg75 -> RE: HP vs. MPG? (5/29/2008 12:12:57 PM)

on a 6.0l the handheld programmers are a joke unless you own a real programmer....

Nelson has the best tunes for the price.... and unlike the PCM4less tunes you can get far more options...

Hummeron37s -> RE: HP vs. MPG? (5/29/2008 1:21:38 PM)

what is nelsons?

Muddydawg75 -> RE: HP vs. MPG? (5/29/2008 1:39:25 PM)

http://www.nelsonperformance.com/

I first got wind of these guys after I joined ls1truck.com  They have more threads on nelson vs the power programmers than we have on cranking torsion bars...

Muddydawg75 -> RE: HP vs. MPG? (5/29/2008 1:40:56 PM)

They have the fan conversions also for anybody still following that topic on this thread....[;)]

TRUBRIT -> RE: HP vs. MPG? (5/29/2008 1:55:14 PM)

As Muddy says. You should look at the Electric Fan conversion as part of a performance upgrade. Do the CA intake and get a Programmer. Exhaust too. In theory you could get the following......I stress in theory...only a Dyno would prove the figures. Something to think about, based on percentages and Manufacturers claims.
STOCK PERFORMANCE               325 HP            365 TQ
Upgrades        (CAI/Elec. Fan)           352 HP            399 TQ
Superchip        (87 Oct)                       368 HP            416 TQ
