My dealer was telling me that they are having to help some dealers near the Detroit area due to low inventory

Let's cut through all the Liberal Media Hype!
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/savemoney.shtml
Using the fuel cost calculator and these variables; 14 city 18 highway, 60/40% city/highway driving, and 10,000 miles a year, my TOTAL Yearly fuel cost at 4.00 per Gallon is $2,603 dollars.  Now I don't know about you but if I can afford a $37,000 truck I can afford $2,600 in gas a year.  That's $216.00 a month to drive an H3...I'd say that's a bargain at any price.  If yer scared, sell your soul and buy a Prius, we'll all point and laugh as you drive by!

Ummmm to be fair to the liberal Media, I was just watching Fox news air a special report about the high cost of oil.  I hate to tell you, this is NOT a liberal thing or a conservative thing. I believe that saying that its costing you "X" $$ extra a year to keep your hummer on the road is a little narrow in perspective.  Its also costing us extra to put food on the table, clothes on our back and heat in the house.  I agree (up to a point) if your driving a hummer you can afford the gas.  I also know of friends and family who have lost jobs (good jobs) due to the high cost of fuel and a sagging economy.

We are no shorter on oil than we were 30 years ago. They are raising prices while still recording record profits. There isn't a problem other than a monopoly problem. And if the LIBERALS would allow us to drill our own oil we wouldn't have to rely on them as much or pay their prices. They have us hostage and they know it. I and you will just keep on paying the prices because we Americans want what we want. Hell, the prices didn't effect to of the biggest sporting events this weekend. The Coca Cola 600 and the Indy 500 had full houses. Took alot of gas and ticket sales to make that happen.
I'm not discounting what you say about knowing some people that have lost their jobs, but the stupid political scene in our country has ALOT to do with what is going on. IMO Everything is always uneasy right before a Presidential election, the uncertainty of what's to come. Americans are fickle, we were pissed and wanted blood for 9-11 but we don't want to pay the price it takes to do that now. Thus is causing buyers to be cautious and effecting everything else. Built too many houses, supply became bigger then the demand, thus our current housing market. NOW, the arabs have us by the ba*** with the oil prices. Give it time and stop panicking, you are just doing what they wanted to do to us back in 2001.
I'm not even going to get started on global warming...

Well DUH!!!  I'm fully aware of waht things cost irrespective of my HUMMER.  I'm just sick of Liberal turds blaming SUV driving folks for this mess.  This mess was mostly caused by greedy bankers, a tanking U.S. Dollar and our idiotic government sending all of our jobs to China.  But my HUMMER has nothing to do with it and I'd like to see a Prius pull a camper!

Hey RJ did you read my rant on this from yesterday? Sounds like the same tune. OPEC and hedge funds are the biggest reasons for the price we are currently paying for oil. If the government doesn't address the monopolistic production and speculative price manipulation the prices will just keep ratcheting up. It can be controlled. A few of these hedge fund managers need to be looking at SEC investigations and jail time and a lot of this nonsense would stop overnight.

Exactly right Rich.  Add in the Ethanol BS and you can account for food inflation.  Layer no nukes on top of that and you have the mess we find ourselves in now.

On this point... we were pissed and wanted blood for 9-11 but we don't want to pay the price it takes to do that now.  Was, and still am, willing to pay for it.  Go Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines!

Amen Brotha! Just takes 10 sec. of the video footage of 9/11 to remind me.

Seriously, we've been here done this all before!! Gas prices jumped in the late 70's and we lived!! If people are loosing their jobs at such an alarming rate, why are the April 2008 DOL unemployment figures lower than March 2008.  Although there are pockets of higher unemployment in some areas, 96% of the US is employed!! In addition, and if you really look, you might just find that there are a percentage of these jobs going unfilled due to the lack of skilled employees, and the will to collect the maximum number of weeks of unemployment before seeking gainful employment.  Part of freedom this country enjoys is a free trade system that allows for the outrageous oil prices here in the US.  To coin an old phrase, we just need to stay the course.

Our own Government strangles the system with regulation and taxes (no new refineries since 1977, that's what almost 30 years). We get taxed to death. The problem is they don't regulate Wall Street or themselves with all of the pork they take for stupid stuff. If you want to see waste go to the official Govt. Grant Sight and see all of the money that is "given" away. AS far as the cost of gas we are still getting off cheap compared to other developed countries. I also think there trying to change our mind set about what we drive and should feel guilty about it. I don't see the Govt talk about creating a state of the art Public/mass transit system.  JMO.

I'm fine with leaving our oil safe in the ground while we use up the rest of the worlds supply first.

May not be any consulation but Australia is exactly the same. Most were behind supporting you guys but slowly the tree huggers rant and rave, we have a change of Government to a bunch a gutless socialists and bingo, they rip our boys out before the job is done. To get elected they were also going to solve global warming, control petrol and fuel prices and curb inflation. So far the hot air they have generated has increased global warming, petrol and food prices continue to sky rocket and inflation is heading ever upward.

They have set up 2 million committees though so that should solve everything! I am manufacturer and have not been able to get workers with any work ethic for 4 years. Unemployment is 4% and they are the unemployable whose only skill is knowing how to work the system to continue to collect Government benefits. The last 6 people we employed over the last 3 weeks.......1 worked a day and didn't come back, 1 left before smoko (2 hours), 1 left because he wasn't allowed to have his mobile phone in the factory, 1 left becasue he wasn't allowed to have a radio in the factory so after being told twice he couldn't, he bought 1 in and turned it on, 1 left because his mate got the sack for having the radio, and 1 has lasted 3 weeks.

85% of new employees take a day off in the first week, which is really code for sack me so I can go back on benefits.

I am going to take a deep breath and have a drink!
