My fan speed switch has died in my 1997 H-1 2 door and I do not know which controller to get. The guys at Lynch are telling me there was an upgrade if the system ever goes out that goes from electric to vacumm actuators?? Not real sure but there is over $100 difference in the price of the control. My controller has the GM style, three large dials and two buttons, one button for the a/c and the other for the defogger.

Any advice on this poor excuse for an a/c in this price vehicle would be appreciated. Even with the auxillary unit running, in the south in the summer, it gets warm in a jet black 2 door.

The fan just does not move enough air, especially on the passenger side. Again any advice from you guys would be appreciated.

Never had a 2 door but guess I am surprised they have the aux. air. The 97.5 did get a significantly better hvac system but it consisted of far more than the fan speed switch. The total upgrade costs 25-4500.00. In SoCal my hvac works fairly well. On a hot, humid Southern summer day I would not be as happy with it. If you go to Lynch's website and look under model year changes I believe it tell you which serial number range got the enhanced hvac. The older style has two buttons under the know for recirc and I believe max ac. That is the easy way to tell. The upgrade ac system only has the turn knobs. I don't know how much difference the fan control would make. Lynch did have a couple of older Hummers on the lot with the upgrade ac system. Not sure if they still have them. If close enough you might check and see if they still do have them and see if the upgrade system makes a big difference. I would also grill them on whether the new fan speed control would really make much difference. For $100.00 it should.

well if you are talking to lynch you are talking o the right folks.... they are top notch over there.....

I guess I am confused.... your control head is bad but you still can control your blower? Or you assume you control head is bad because you are not getting adequate flow????

First, pull the blower out, its fairly simple to do.... then turn the control head to the different settings and see if the blower motor responds.... if it does, nothing is wrong.... if it doesn't then you need to figure out if its a control head, hvac resistor or a fuse.... depending on how it responds it could be any one of those....

if everything works fine and it responds to each of the positions then you need to check out the venting system and ensure you don't have any leaks in the sysem.... just fom sealing those up you could dramatically improve performance..... might want to check the Hummer Knowedge base too

No, I may have caused the confusion in the way I described the problem. The fan speed switch just turns with no effect. It feels like it is stripped out on the inside.

Also, the guys at Lynch never told me that the upgraded head would improve the flow, it is a matter of getting a plug and play replacement part, which is different depending on if the upgrade has been performed or not.

I have bought several dollars worth of goodies from Lynch since I have had my truck, under body protection, winch, wheel covers, etc and these guys know their stuff, that is why I called them. You are correct, they are top notch when it comes to the H-1.

Sorry if I caused any confusion. I was just venting (no pun intended) on the weak and poor performance of this caliber vehicle that has the equivilent of an a/c system out of a 72 AMC Pacer.

3hummers, I do not know why it had the aux. air unit. It is all factory. That system has a seperate 3 position rocker style fan speed switch to operate it.

The difference in the upgraded system and the original is the original has electric flap actuators, and the upgrade has vaccumm flap actuators, as per my discussion with Lynch. I do not know that the upgrade would improve airflow, it is just a different way if putting the air where you want it to go.

Does anyone know of a good service center in the south? All the upgrade places seem to be in California. If I wanted the duramax, the price to get the truck back and forth would be rough.

Will Lynch do the conversion? I am in SoCal and not real familiar with the service guys back there. If not Lynch might be able to recommend someone. The main thing is to get it done right even if that means paying a couple of grand in shipping.

I agree that the ac could be better but buying this truck to cruise around in uber-comfort might have been a mistake. It's a humvee with an interior bolted in it. Wheel it. Enjoy it. Sweat in it!

good luck getting it working though -- Lynch is great

i would remove the 4 screws holding the a/c contoler and radio bezel to the dash. when you take those 4 screws out pull the radio and the a/c controler back out of the dash. look at the back of the contoler and if it has a round vacuum connector in the middle of it that is the new style. if it doesn't have it than it is old style.

Well, after some trouble shooting as recommeded, I think (hope) I have detrmined that it is the relay that is bad. the blower works and the head still works by operating the blower and cutting in the compressor when jumped across the relay. Any ideas other than s*&% happens as to why both relays would suddenly go out?? Certainly hope the new relays will solve the problem. I have detrmined that it is the old style, and one of my earlier posts was incorrect, the control head has three buttons; the a/c on, the recirculate, and the rear window dofogger.

Any other uglys to watch for when replacing the relays would be appreciated.

Never had to do it so can't help much on this. Seems to be solved on the cheap.
