I am going down home for the summer and i was thinking about brining my car with me on a trailer.

Now I have an 89 Mustang LX so that's about 2800 lbs and a car trailer would be at around 2000 lbs I would think. So I would be looking at 4800lbs or so behind a 2007 H3 (off road package) which can haul 4500lbs according to that manual. Now I am sure that is the same number so it can probably pull a little more but i am worried about the abuse on tranny \ motor.

I would be making the trip in two runs so the truck would get a little break in Quebec city This drive is about 1400km's (90o miles)  each way.

Should I even attempt this thing or I am asking for troubles down the road?

Thanks

I think for this size and class of vehicle the towing capabilities are above average. I have towed trailers above the recommended capacity of vehicles before but don't recommend it. 2000# for a trailer? You can find flatbed open trailers that wiegh 800#s. Sounds like if you could find/rent a different trailer there would be no issues. U-Haul rents flatbed trailers. I used to keep one just for utility towing purposes until I moved to no room for anything California.

Wait, you are using your car and towing a car with you so you can use that car?  Why not use your H3 for the summer?  Heck, why not just use the Mustang for the summer and drive it up there?

I'm confused, logic sometimes makes too much sense.
