Before I got my H2, I had an Avalanche with a 5.3 (same engine as the 6.0) that the knock sensors went bad in. There is a TSB on the sensors. It takes about 3-4 hours to replace them due to them being under the intake manifold.

Can someone tell me what a Knock Sensor IS/DOES????

Ya. The knock sensors (2) are located under the intake manifold. I believe this can be removed as a unit including throttle body and fuel injectors. The 2 sensors should be connected by a wiring harness. Don,t know how easy this install would be though. See if a parts store can print off a diagram for you.

Funny thing, I just had mine replaced on my 07. I went wheeling last weekend, and my engine light came on. Dealer had to replace the evap canister, and the knock sensor and it's wiring harness. He said it was covered with too much dirt/mud, that it couldn't read anything. What happened to yours?

thanks to all,
Dizzy
are u sure there are (2) knock sensors? I need to order them, but I need to know the qty

Bob,

A knock sensor is essentially a microphone that listens to your engine to detect knock.  Generally it can detect a knocking rod or lifters that need to be adjusted etc...

I have no idea where the knock sensor is on the H2.  My boat has a 5.7ltr 350 and the knock sensor is located on the side of the block just above the oil pan.

Is there a place to buy a whole wiring diagram / ulitmate book on the h2 for repairs / replacing hidden sensors etc?

hummech -> RE: knock sensor location (5/13/2008 12:09:37 PM)

there are two knock sensors. one for left bank and one for right bank. if you are in there i would replace both of them.

Does somebody know if the instake need to be removed to reach them?

TheFinestImage -> RE: knock sensor location (5/13/2008 1:08:07 PM)

When I had mine done by the dealer, they said that they had to remove the intake. They only replaced one? Anyway, they had my H2 for about 2 and a half hours, from start to finish.

Yes.... it does....

probably should buy the harness as well... the sensors usually short to ground if you got water in the valley.... hence why you got the code...  but it could be crappy gas... and it could go away...  when in dount change the part

BTW... bank 1 refers to the left side or front...bank 2 refers to the right side or back one

In the TSB it says to make a u shaped with silicone to restrict waterflow in but leave an opening so the water can drain if need be.
I would replace both at the same time. Before you replace them you might have them erase the code first and see if it comes back.
