SafariHummerH2 -> UPDATE: BLACKOUT LIGHTS (5/11/2008 9:44:01 AM)

What are Black Out Lights?
     The US Army devised a strategy to use the tail lights and marker lights on vehicles to not only evade detection from the enemy, but also to help with the problem of conducting vehicle movement at night under black out conditions.  These specially designed military lights are called Black Out Lights.
The original "WW II" Humvees and Jeeps had these mounted on them to evade capture during night operations and are still in use today.
Hello Friends,
Here is the latest addition to my H2...Enjoy!
Please provide your opinions!
(I guess this puts me in the same catagory as "Hummerguy" with his off road light design.)
And of course we can't forget the Breather Snorkel....Thank you all for your opinions, compliments and critizisms.
They have all been welcomed!

Have you ever actually tried to drive with them? It isn't fun, you're not going to see much past your bumper and we are taught not to drive much faster than idle speed while using them.

Cool find though.

That's kinda cool....  did you find them or make them?

Are you going to do anything to the back?

"The original "WW II" Humvees"

That's more interesting than the "Black-out Lights"

Black out drive lights work best when used in conjunction with Night Vision Devices (NVD). They basically illuminate just the ground in front of the vehicle. I've driven down dirt roads at about 40 MPH using black out drive and NVG's. It scares the crap out of your passengers who don't have NVD's. [:D]

interesting, now I also know why the HMMWVs have the weird looking taillights...

3hummers -> RE: UPDATE: BLACKOUT LIGHTS (5/11/2008 7:36:58 PM)

Lots of the guys with restored Humvees have them on their trucks. I have driven with NV goggles but not with black out lights.

HummBob -> RE: UPDATE: BLACKOUT LIGHTS (5/12/2008 12:15:14 AM)

So......What exactly do they do????

SafariHummerH2 -> RE: UPDATE: BLACKOUT LIGHTS II (5/21/2008 2:32:58 PM)

Thank you all for your questions and comments.
And since there was much feed back on this posting, I was inspired and decided to go on ebay and aquire the full ensamble of BLACKOUT TAILIGHTS and MARKER LIGHTS for the FRONT and REAR.
As soon as I finish reconditioning them and mounting them appropiatly, I will post some photos.
Although the actual use of BLACKOUT LIGHTS is very limited and almost slim to none but the look of having them mounted and working on a HUMMER proves very satisfying.
Thank you all again and I continue to welcome your questions and comments.
