CerberusSVT -> Corvette ZR-1 top speed run video (4/25/2008 11:33:46 AM)

The Corvette Development Engineering team took the new ZR1 to the test track in Papenburg, Germany and put the pedal to the metal to see just how fast it could go. It looks to me as if they went 206.7 mph with two testers and equipment. Oh, and the final HP numbers have been released, it is making 638hp. The car comes supercharged from the factory running 10.5 psi. Can you say... pulley? This car has the chance to be the be-all end-all of bolt on power, especially if this engine responds to both a cam upgrade like the natrually aspirated LS3 engine that its based off of does. Combine that with a pulley, full exhaust and a tune & this car will be something else.

What a beautiful piece of engineering.

WOW!!! I Love the ZR-1!!!

3hummers -> RE: Corvette ZR-1 top speed run video (4/25/2008 10:17:36 PM)

It is going to be an awesome car. Even at 100K it is going to be the sports car buy value of them all.

rhill20 -> RE: Corvette ZR-1 top speed run video (4/26/2008 1:47:14 PM)

Too bad there isn't anywhere here to open it up like that.

3hummers -> RE: Corvette ZR-1 top speed run video (4/26/2008 4:51:55 PM)

Not a lot of areas around here either.

GorillaH2 -> RE: Corvette ZR-1 top speed run video (4/26/2008 7:12:07 PM)

There is barely anywhere except the autobahn where you can open up a car like that

rhill20 -> RE: Corvette ZR-1 top speed run video (4/26/2008 7:58:19 PM)

Yea, I found out the hard way that the autobahn actually has speed limits on it though. Was called into the Commanders office and he showed me a pic of me driving the BMW that I had rented 2 weeks earlier along with the ticket they mailed me.[:D] Hard to deny it when it actually has a pic of you sitting in the driver seat!

HummBob -> RE: Corvette ZR-1 top speed run video (4/27/2008 1:44:30 AM)

That's Hilarious!!![:D][:D]

[sm=jawdrop.gif]WOW!

thats funny, theres a bus on the high-speed track at 1:40!!

pteam -> RE: Corvette ZR-1 top speed run video (4/27/2008 3:34:36 PM)

The only problem is theyre selling for 100k over sticker right now, and I wouldnt buy a corvette for 200k, you can get ALOT more horsepower for money like that. Buy a few year old viper for 40-50k, or a few year old vette for 30k and twin turbo it for 1000hp, for half the money.

3hummers -> RE: Corvette ZR-1 top speed run video (4/27/2008 7:11:08 PM)

I haven't heard the 100K premium story yet. Like every other car that ever drew a premium it will disappear.

I haven't heard about the mark ups, but I'll believe it. You could use that argument with so many old cars though... Bottom line is that factory engineered stuff is the way to do it for most people and they're going to pay the premium for it. Its going to be a lot more comfortable than any of those cars will, and most likely much more reliable. Plus it can still be modded too [;)]

As far as HP/$, the older cars are usually the better deals... logically. The only thing I can think of that would compare to this car is a ford GT with a pulley and a tune. It would go for the same money as one of these after the mark up, but I'd take the modded GT every day of the week. Regardless of my slight bias towards the blue oval. Its exotic, rather than just fast.

The diffrence is that a cheap used viper would be worth nothing 10 years from now.  To corvette collectors, this thing is worth every penny.

I would have to strongly disagree man.  I dont know this for sure but I would imagine in the early 90's there were probubly more ZR1's sold and produced than Vipers.  With that being said look at Old Mopar Hemis vs old Corvettes and Other GM muscle cars.  The old Hemi's seem to bring WAY more money at auctions than the GM's.  I would venture to say its due to the limited amount produced.

I am not really biased toward either of them.  They are both bad ass cars that go way faster than I need to.  But If I someone was going to hand me the keys to an early 90's Viper or ZR1 I would take the Viper Keys all day long! lol.  You dont see them very often and they smoked the ZR1 of the day.

Just my .02
Eric
