Hey guys. My water pump is leaking on my 2003 H2. I am wondering if anyone here has changed it own there own? Difficult job?  Is it necessary to remove the fan? Most things I will attempt to do own my own but not sure how accesible the pump is. Here in Toronto the dealer wants about 4 hours labor at $115 per hour. If anyone could give me some pointers on doing this job it would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks

I have not done one on my H2 yet.  But I have done them on othervehicles.  From looking at it the job does not seem to hard.  Just depends on how capable your are mechanically?  If you wont do your own brakes or hubs then have the dealer do it.  If you can do those without challenge then do the pump yourself.

I have not done one on the Deuce.... but I did one on a 8.1l..... it is easy.  The hardest part is that damn Serpentine belt...  I spent over an hour trying to change the one on my 03...

and yeah... unless you have an electric fan it's coming off... along with a couple other things...

I had mine done at the dealer. Total cost was about $565.00 parts and labor.

Yea the quote of 4 hrs at $115 per hour was Queensway Hummer. I talked to the garage that did my belts this winter and they said they would do the job for $240 labour and I could supply my own parts. The owner of this shop also has an 03 H2 and he said they did the pump on his truck. I can get a corporate discount for the pump from a delco dealer that I know. The pump would cost me $206 instead of $350. A huge discount. I will also pick up a thermostat while I am there. I,m taking the truck in on Sat to have the pump installed. If you ever need any parts Derick, let me know.  I will let you know how everything turns out.

Let me know Doug, where is the other garage that you are going to? Etobicoke? I may want to check them out too if I have any issues in the future that warranty does not cover, and as for parts.... I will be for sure needing some someday soon I would guess.

Let's us know how it all works out.

$206??? Is that Canadian?

If it is USD that is a ripoff....  I'd call Gene....

Ya. The Hummer dealer here in Toronto wants $350 for the water pump. I can get the Delco pump for $205 with my corporate discount. Canadian  If I had to pay the dealer $1000 for pump and labour I would be doing it myself for sure.

It's probably worth paying the $240 to have someone do it...  I'm serious when I tell you the serpentine belts are a pain in the ass to change on the truck...  although it might have been easier if stuff was taken off like you would have off when changing the pump...

anyways... the point of my drivel... buy the 2 serpentines and have them change them when you get the job done... piece of mind... preventive maintenance.. call it what you want... it's a good idea...

Had the water pump replaced today. Took the truck in at 8am and the shop called me around 11am to say it was ready. The bill was actually $220 labor plus the cost for approx 11 litres of dexcool. The new delco pump kit came with a new thermostat already installed in it. I am very pleased as the dealer would have charged me at least twice the price.
