Rock chips to front grille...

White08H3 -> Rock chips to front grille... (4/19/2008 7:53:30 PM)

So I washed and waxed the H3 for the second time today and noticed that there was a couple chips on the front grille, probably from winter driving and the road sand. Is there anything they sell to protect the front grille at all? I will be purchasing a brush guard soon, but I don't think that will help in deflecting rocks all that much...

Any suggestions?

I don't know how good it is or if it's snake oil. BUT, they do sell an "invisible" guard. It's like a clear piece of plastic. I believe SmartShield or Invisible Film might work

Interesting. I was just thinking about the 3m film. I saw it at the NY auto show a year or 2 ago and found it amazing. If it actually works is the key. For the front grille they quoted me $220 bucks installed. For some clear tape, seems a bit high to me...

I'm just waiting until it gets a bunch of chips and scratches then I'll either buff it out and paint it or line-x it.

Line-X is actually a really good idea.

The clear 3m vinyl works well...I installed it on my rear flares to keep rock chips away!  I never thought about using it for my front grill....My plastic chrome grill has chips in it to.....The 3M stuff is REALLY expensive even to buy it wholesale.  Actually it is insane pricing, but it does work.  I have pre-made rear flare protectors made....wasn't sure if anybody would be interested in them though.  Maybe I'll work on a grill piece to.[:)]

I saw how much some places were advertising the 3m for and so far the lowest quote I got was $92.24 with a kit that you do it yourself + free shipping. Glad to hear it works though.

Not sure where you live but living in Vegas with the heat it will eventually turn a yellow color....
something to think about !

I had that "Invisible Guard" stuff on my last car and it works like a champ.  I don't live in Vegas, but mine never turned color in the four plus years I owned my car.
