here's what i got back. hope it helps some. "Pecan's are used to hot, dry & windy climates so they can tolerate stress well if they are healthy. But, on weak trees, crop shed (ie losing the nuts) could be due to pollination drop, casebearer drop or waterstage drop. Dropping the nuts is an importmant natural stress management tool for the tree. Assuming the nuts just shed now and not last May, the crop shed during the waterstage can be due to any stress (such as long heat spell) or insect feeding. If the nuts are shedding in August with black shucks and half-filled kernels, this is due to shuck dieback. If the nuts are shedding with a small hole at the base of the nut, this is due to pecan nut casebearer. There appear to be a lot of online pecan resources. The Pecan MD recommends the ones associated with agricultural colleges such as Texas A&M."
