Ok, so the wife is fed up with me and I am out of reasons why not to buy her a new car. She currently drives a 02 Expedition and she loves it, she is just tired of it. I personally do not like the ford expedition we have, but it does the job and has been a good one, I just hate to drive it. We have two kids and are thinking about number three, and have family that come into town several times a year, so I am looking at 7 to 8 passenger SUVs or crossovers. My wife and I are not big fans of the mommy vans, I mean mini vans. We looked at the GMC Acadia, Yukon, and the Cadillac Escalade. I wanted to look at the Chrysler Aspen, but haven't checked it out yet. She prefers to scale down in size a little and likes the Acadia, but I am still open to other options. This vehicle will also get used for a couple of 10+ hour road trips each year and I usually drive on the trips. Overall we usually end up averaging about 18k to 20k miles a year in her car. There are so many new suvs and crossovers on the market, my head is starting to spin and I am so tired of thinking about this and am ready to buy something just to get it over with. Any thoughts are ideas would be appreciated....

I haven't been in that market in a long time. When I was I drove Suburbans or Tahoes. I don't have a clue what the current offerings are in that category. I rent a lot of cars in my travels and have had Envoys and Tahoes lately and they weren't too bad. Not sure if you can get a third seat option of not.

I hear ya. I like the tahoes also, my folks have a new one they pull behind their coach and they like it. We looked at the Envoys and the XL a few months back and it has the third row, but I didn't like it much.

Now that hummer has a longer frame for the H3T, I wonder what the odds are of an H3XL or extended H3 with a third row. That might be interesting.

I really liked all of my Suburbans. A little big but lots of room and comfotable.

We had an 05 Durango Limited with the 3rd row seating. Was very nice, hauled me, the wife and 4 kids around all summer. If we went on a trip we just put the hitch basket on it and we were good. Loved that truck and the HEMI in it. But the Hummer won out. Check them out, they may surprise you.

I'd recomend against crossovers as family cars.. suburbans are great and I think its silly how they try to squeeze a 3rd row seat in a tahoe!

Oh yea, I had a Pontiac Vibe (it's a crossover) for a rental this past week. DO NOT get that if you are looking at having 3 kids! I had 2 back there and it was nothing but whine, whine, whine... And 2 Suitcases filled up the back.

Thanks guys. I'll keep the Durango in mind. I had a crew cab Dakota once. It was a fun truck, never managed to get it stuck. My wife is not a big fan of the suburban or any of the other extended length SUV's. I looked at a Jeep Commander also. The third row seat is pretty much useless for adults. Someone at Jeep must of had hummer envy when they made that thing.

They have the change holder on the left side bottom part of the dash. I swear, 3 times I went to get out and cracked my damned knee on it
