I have never had a problem with having to grease my ball, of course I don't leave it on the truck all the time. I store it behind the rear seat of my sut, I don't tow that mutch, but usually keep the tongue on the trailers I use greased. So I just wipe my ball when i'm done and put it back in the cab and never had a rust problem.

I never leave mine on the truck either if it isn't being used. Always take it off, whipe it down and put on the shelf in the garage.

Different types of quantity but one scores more than the other.

I spray mine with white lithium grease every couple of weeks in the summer when towing.  I usually just leave it in during the whole boating season.  That way I dont have to put my dirty greasy ball back in the truck after using it every time.  I use mine about 3x a week in the summer.  You really dont have to grease your ball.  What it really does is just help with connecting and un hooking the trailer.  The only part that sucks for some people is that when they are trying to get stuff out of the back of the truck that they will bump into the ball and get dirty.  My wife does this all the time. I almost never do as I have delt with a greasy hitch ball my whole life and just know to steer clear of it sub-consiously.

Rusty and balls should never be in the same sentence. Don't use that KY junk, I have much better lubes - warming, flavored, scented...there's even a numbing lube for the 'rear axle'!
I disagree with Doc - it's always best to grease the ball, not the other way around. If your receiver is too loose and your ball doesn't get a good tight fit, there's a lube for that too it's called "snug" and it will tighten that right up and fix the problem.

I'm glad I saw this - boy did I get some good quotes to use at my bachelorette parties!!

HummerGuy - no offense but you have a very ugly ball, for sake of the general public I hope you keep that thing covered HAHA
