You have to know Muddy, he has a spending problem , that's why he thinks an E7 is poverty level.

Most E7 camels do quite well for themselves.      It is the goats you have to keep an eye on.

they should take care of ALL their citizens. No offence to our service men/women...but signing up for service doesn't make anyone more "American" than the next person.

let's not compare that to most E-7's in the USAF fall below the poverty level....

How in the world is an E7 below poverty level. I'm an E6 and I am NOWHERE near the poverty level. The have some serious self budgeting issues if that is the case because their LES doesn't reflect it.

don't take that the wrong way. wasn't taken personally, just don't get that.
E-7
Base Pay       3787
BAH               882
Rations           202
Equals           4871 a month

Don't forget that you pay nothing for medical insurance. And $1,000 of that is NON TAXABLE. Living "the high life"? No, but hardly poverty stricken.

The BAH numbers are all wrong....  I was an E-5 living offbase... getting 1200 a month for BAH and still spent well over 600 a month out of my pocket for rent/ utilities when I was in DC....

add some kids to that.... 200 a month for food?  Maybe if I ate top ramen.... there has also been recent targeted pay grades that have gotten bonus raises...

I think we should start a military thread like I said before....

The BAH numbers are based off of Zip Code, that's what you get for where I live right now. The Rations are for the individual soldier/airman/marine. Besides, what other job pays you extra for either? VERY few. I understand what you are saying about the living expense, but 600 a month is better than 1800 a month that it would take without the BAH. Do we need to be paid better? Hell yes! But like I said, we aren't the BEST paid people in the world but I make more than alot of people I know.

I know.... but if I was living on base nothing would come out of my pocket.... except for my food.... it's an old system that didn't keepup with the economy.....

now... yeah... maybe the entire 1800 would have come out of my pocket.... but I make at least twice as much as I did back then.... So I really don't mind paying my $2000 mortage and taxes now.... Especially since I make in a week what I used to get for a 2 week check...

and then you pay taxes.... I said before that the biggest and best thing you could do for a soldier is to make their base pay tax exempt... that is the only thing that would bring a soldier up to standards....

Oh I agree with the tax thing wholeheartedly! I do think that the base pay definitely needs to come up more. And it is ALOT better than when I came in. But you have too many people in Washington that don't agree

Don't get me wrong.... had I not be medically retired.... I'd still be in and have only 6 more years left to retirement... and if the right Civilian job came up I would gladly transfer my 11 1/2 years over to that system....
