It still needs approval by the FCC before it can proceed.

I saw this yesterday, sad but maybe good in the long run. I have had XM since the very first day it was turned on.  Our stereo shop was one of the first in our area to get the equipment before XM went live. As long as I don't have to listen to Howard it will be all good!!

i would say that conservatively dont expect to see our current xm tuners able to get sirius for at least 5 years......its still a while away from final approval, and to convert the satellite signals to be interchangeable between the 2 companies receivers is still a ways off....and finally i doubt our head units have the capacity to carry all the incremental channels......eventually new cars will be made with receiver to carry both, but i dont believe current models will be able to do that.

Somehow I doubt that is the case.  You would just reformat the brodcasts and add the channels before they go out.  Almost like how you can CBS or NBC on Cable or Dish.  XM changes and adds channels all the time.  They have like 240+ channels now.  Why not go to 500?  I would have to disagree with you.  Just my $.02

It's going to be a while.  They've been working on this for 2 years already.  I seriously doubt it's going to happen anytime soon.  Approval and implementation are two different things.

the problem is our stereos might not be able to handle 500 channels.................just like old school televisions, anything over channel 100 and they go back to 2.  im not saying it isnt possible, im just saying our stockers might not be able to keep up

I had Sirius for about 3 years until last week when I bought my Hummer and it came with XM. I will be adding Sirius to this vehicle very soon. The programing on Sirius is so much better. I am not an XM fan at all. The music choices are so much better at Sirius.
