One thing about my Alpha is that the gas mileage has been great! I now have 4400 miles on the odometer, and have been doing the calculations for gas mileage with every fill up. This is what I have had:

Based on using 18.7 gallons and traveling 320 miles. That gives me gas mileage in the range of 17.1mpg. That is a combo of driving highway and idling in the city.

I've been very pleased with what I'm receiving for mileage......now if everything else gets fixed......maybe I'll get even better mileage!!!

WOW! I will be very happy if I can get that out of my alpha! I haven't even gone through the first tank yet so I have no idea what I am getting. Problem is the 35"s come in 2 days so I'm pretty sure I can kiss any chance of 17mpg goodbye

The only time I figured mine I came up with 14.7 MPG with 35's.

If I'm thinking right, it should actually be a little more than this as I travelled further than my odometer read.

I'm installing a Scanguage this weekend and will report back what I find.

I then plan to see how some Watter Wetter effects my coolant temps, and I may try those "iffy" new Pulse sparkplugs to see if I can eek out a few more MPG's.

I don't have an alpha but I did put 35's on and my mileage went from a little over 17 to around 15.

I think 17 mpg is really great! You still have the original tires (265/75R16) on your truck right? I put 33’s on my truck (BFG/AT 295/75R16) and lost some mpg so the 35’s will indeed make a difference. The best I’ve ever done was 14 mpg city. I’ve not yet checked it for highway mileage. Of course I set my cruise for 77mph so I don’t expect to do as well as if I drove at 60 mph. There can be a wide range of mpg depending on driving style and options on a truck.

The increase in tire size does effect the odometer reading so I used my GPS to record my miles driven when I calculated my mpg and it also says you are traveling at a slower rate of speed then you actually are.

One thing to remember here is the EPA fuel estimates are average estimates as stated on your window sticker.

13 mpg city (average) - the expected range for most drivers is 10 to 16 mpg.
16 mpg highway (average) - the expected range for most drivers is 13 to 19 mpg.

It also states Combined Fuel Economy as 14 mpg and says “Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle.”

I don't have GPS in the truck yet, but I put the same tires on that you have Alpha. And everytime that I pass one of those signs that post your speed, it is dead on. WTH?

Plan on putting GPS in it but have to wait as I was told to wait and see if I get one for my Bday, only problem is that isn't until July!!

We aren't getting anywhere near that type of mileage with our H3 Alpha. We have the Adventure package so we have the 295 tires. Average is probably 14.5 mpg

Hey Brandie.  One of our members and friends, HummerMike, told me on the phone a few days ago he's getting around 17 to 17.5 also in his '08 Alpha.  That's really good considering I'm getting around 17 to 18 in my I-5 manual.  When I had one for a few days though I was getting bad mileage, but mostly because the highway I was driving on has an average speed of around 80 (that's the slow lane) so the mileage was down the tubes.

That's great to hear though!

Yeah, I'm surprised at how well it does.  I have not taken it on a long trip one way yet.....doing around 55mph.  I bet I could get up to 19mpg then.  My mpg's go way down if I do above 70mph on the highway, you can actually watch the gas go going down

Yup. In my experience at different speeds, the '06 H3 seems to get the best mileage between 55 and 65, but realistically, nobody around here drives that slow.  If you do, you are blocking traffic, literally.  Try driving down a highway at 60 in a bright red Hummer when everbody is doing 80 and see what kind of reactions you get  It's free entertainment.

The speed limit up here is 65mph.....most people drive around 70...and then some do about 90.  I hover around 70 and try to keep the gas in the tank...especially since it keeps going up
