Can someone point me in the right direction?
I am looking at H1's.  Where is a good FAQ with the Hummer basics?
Where is a good price point? Known trouble spots etc...

Many Thanks
-Peter

That is a big question. Try to narrow it down to a few years worth of Hummers and we can help you a lot more. The websites above are good but can't substitute for talking with owners on their experiences

are you going to wheel it alot, a little, or just drive around the mall looking cool? Will it be a daily driver or just occaisionally driven vehicle/weekend toy? What is your budget? Are you willing to work on it yourself (this will save you alot of $$ in the long run) or will you need one with a warranty of some kind?

Like 3 hummers suggested, before buying anything I'd find a few local owners and start picking their brains/riding in their trucks to make sure you like it -- hummers are not for everyone (don't get me wrong, I love driving my hummer, but a caddy it's not!).

this video will make you want one more (just don't believe the easy parking thing -- it's bs):

I am looking at 1994's-1999's H1 Wagons
I can perform many maitenance items.

Project vehicles I have owned:
1951 GMC 1/2 ton where I put on a 1977 Camaro front end clip, 283 Cid, 12 volt, tilt steering, PB, etc..
1973 Camaro

I currently own (but am looking at selling)
1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette
1994 Jeep YJ

My Family hauler is a 2001 Ford E-350 12 passenger with a 7.3 l turbo diesel.  I have totally fallen in love with the diesel, I love the 4x4 of the jeep, and the sexyiness of the Corvette.

So I am looking at a second vehicle for, recreational usage, sometimes drive to work (but I mostly bicycle), general 2nd vehicle type stuff. I have never even driven in one... (Not that many owners in Edmonton Alberta...) but I am very interested.

NOT interested in H2's or H3's.

I am wondering...
1) do the wagon hard tops come off?
2) any after market items to help fuel economy? (Banks power?)
3) How usable are the jump seats? (for 8 passenger seating?)

There are some serious aftermarket items for the 6.2l, 6.5l, and of course the 6.6l....

800hp can be yours in a weekend....

The wagons do not have removable tops. The jump seats are somewhat usable by small children.
Lots of aftermarket accessories.
