Another Steering Issue Question

I searched through the archives, and it looks like I may have my answer, but I wanted to run this by real live people just in case.

When I bought my 07 H3 with 7K miles the steering was a little looser than on the brand new 08s, but I chalked it up to the car having some mileage on it, and that it may have just been worn in.

Now when I am driving at freeway speeds (on the rare occasions our freeways in SoCal actually reach freeway speeds) the steering becomes very nervous, almost as if I was drunk and trying to keep it in the lane.

After searching the forums it sounds like it could be related to the lower shaft, but I wanted to see if I was on the right track. The truck is still on warrantee.

Do you get any clunking or mechanical sounds out of the truck when you turn?

It does occasionally make some noise at maximum turn, but it is not all of the time.

I think it is an early 07 model, since it was first sold in January of 07.

that is the lower shaft issue.  My original 08 H3 was very loose on the highway....it was very hard to hold it straight, and it would wander around.  Get the updated part and you should be all set!

That also sounds like it could be an alignment problem.  If your alignment is too far in or out the vehicle will have a tendency to "search" for what's really straight and you'll feel it in the wheel.  Lifts will also affect the alignment, if you go too far up you'll have to install a camber kit to bring things back to normal because the factory settings were not designed to do that.  Easilly done at a good 4X4 shop or someone who really knows front ends, not your local tire shop or WalMart!

i agree with RealJeep,the steering shaft problem can amplify how much you need to move the steering wheel to make a correction,weaving at speed is definately an alignment problem!
