A friend emailed me this....he read it on a pt cruiser forum he found...

Today, a friend rented a PT while his main car was in the shop. He drove it into a 6" puddle of water and the engine suddenly stopped running. We towed it to my garage and found that the entire intake airbox, boot, mass airflow sensor and air filter were soaking wet. The airbox was full of water and crankcase contained over a quart of water. The engine had not seized, but had clearly thrown a rod; it would only rotate about 150 degrees before it gave a solid metal "clank" and stopped. The rental company picked it up and took it back to the dealer. It looks like poor engineering to me to put a downward facing intake boot that leads directly to the fender well that would naturally be full of water, wouldn't you agree? - Thomas, from Texas.

Not making fun of PT's...but aren't you glad you have a hummer after reading that?!?!

I am glad I drive a Hummer for a lot of reasons. I had a PT Cruiser as a rent car one time. Not sure if that one was representative of the model or not but what a POS.

I had a PT Cruisr in HI and never had that happen, I would think that the 6" puddle wasn't 1' in diameter more than likely it was covereing the whole street maybe 30' across and being 6" deep that's allot of water and plus you can't tell how deep it is just by looking at it and also how fast you hit that amount of water, I'm sure they didn't crawl through it, but blasted into it. Doing that would take many vehicles out because allot of them pull air from the fender wells.

Ever heard of Debbie Downer? I was laughing at Impy for getting such a kick out of it until I read Gunny's post. You're right Gunny

Driving a PT Cruiser through puddles is kind of like driving a Hummer to the mall. Neither were designed for that.  ( waiting for the chorus of boo s ) LOL
