I’m wanting to lift my H3. I’m cheap. I was wondering if it’s possible to put the leaf springs on top of the axle and do a key and t-bar adjust combo. Anybody done this. Know any problem that may happen, ect…

For the front end - yes, crank the torsion bars and get Cognitos or similar.

For the rear, check out this thread. It's more about extended shackles for the rear leafs than moving the axle.

Depending on HOW cheap you really are, this looks to be a nice alternative to the
over priced (IMHO) Rancho Lift.

The Tuff Country EZ-Ride Suspension engineering team has designed this supsension system around new driver and passenger side steering knuckles and front / rear cross members. These cross members are connected by a heavy duty skid plate designed to protect the front differential and stabilize the cross members. This superiorly designed kit also allows for the torsion bars to remain in the factory location, eliminating relocating of the stock torsion bars. Front sway bar end links use a heim-joint end that eliminates any binding in the front sway bar. Also included are differential relocation brackets, performance bump stops and rear u-bolts.

as gunner said it depends on price with the rancho lift you have to change wheels as the new uprights are bigger and the standard wheel don't fit
and PRICES are so cheap over there i just paid 6700.00 to have my rancho installed plus new wheels
but i wouldn't change it for quids

and depends on what you are lookin for are you lookin for something that preforms off road or are you lookin for more of a road presence?

BTW: I've run Rancho on several of my rigs over the years and have loved their
products. They are however, very, very proud of their stuff and price it
accordingly. This new Tuff Country lift is an unknown at this point. I know
of one guy that just added it and should be trial testing it in the next month
or so. We will see if it survives.

Until now, Rancho had a monopoly on lift kits for the H3.....Hopefully the TC kit will bear up.

Also, I believe Hunner has contact with a fellow that is running this kit as well and should be seeing it in
action before long. If he doesn't pass along the trail test info personally, I'll see if he'll let me do so in his stead.

Yeah I got the wheels. I just bought a set of 4 black **** Cepek and 315/75/16 (35‘s) for $1000 new. They guy was going to put them on a Chevy ½ ton but the truck ate it. And it’s not like I’m here asking how to lift it, I’m just getting different opinions. I’ve already been looking at stuff. I saw the TC and have been talking to my brother who’s big into 4x4 and off road and he knows of people using them on other vehicles. Said they did just fine, just rode a little rougher. But with the IFS on a Hummer that it shouldn’t really matter.

The low price of the TC kit comes from a couple of draw backs, IMO.

One, is that it doesn't come with shocks, that's another $400 to the price.

Two, is the rear is lifted with add-a-leafs, where the Rancho comes with new springs.

I think the TC kit would much more prone to sagging in the rear.

So.... maybe they are apples to apples by the time you fully option out the kit.

From the TC web site: 
H3 owners can choose between (2) configurations of rear lift methods: Economical rear add-a-leafs which are added to the factory leaf springs or replacement rear leaf springs.

Right, so the $1200 price is for a kit with no shocks, and add-a-leafs.

You could roll the dice on the add-a-leaf's and have a kit for around $1600, but for another $600, it seems well worth it to get the Ranch with the better reputation and full replacement leaf springs.

Just to contradict my own arguement, you can get a Tuff Country lift with rear-replacements and shocks for $1700.

i would check the size of the uprights on any lift kit that you get having already purchased the wheels!!!!!!!!!!!
what a bagin on the tryes though mine just set me back $1980 (tyres only)for five

I like the reputation of Rancho but again keep in mind you need to do cutting with the Rancho lift.
