xzach, That is correct, it is in front of the 2 fender wells. The box sits low, and the area is filled in around with diamond plate to close off the whole area from the fender wells forward to the back of the cab and to the sides of door fillers, since no box would ever go side to side of the H-1. The two foot well areas are accessed by two small doors that are cut in the door filler panels, these are flush access panels with a simple key lock. The foot well areas can be accessed for storage, but it does get wet from rain running up the bed and under the box (just like a normal pick-up) and it also gets some road spray, so you would not want to put your dry socks in there!! I have never tried to seal these off because I am afraid I would trap as much as I keep out, especially if I didn't open the access doors to let the spaces air out. But it makes use of an area that would otherwise be trapped. I will try to take some photos that I can post so everyone can see what I am talking about. It will not win any awards, but it makes a real neat functional item out of an otherwise trapped space. Imagine a regular truck tool box sitting in the bed of the 2 door pictured, so the top is almost flush with the sides of the truck. Also, the single door tool box can be opened from either side of the truck, and for anyone who has the 2 door, you need somewhere to store your stuff, because the cab is full.

ORIGINAL: ronb if you plan on wheeling your truck don't put them on. I'll echo this. Side steps on an h1 is pointless. If you want make a fool out of yourself put some sidesteps on an h1 or hmmwv and hit some sand dunes and watch little kids on their quads laugh at you as you get stuck. The side steps make great shovels :)

I will have to qualify that for you.... I have side steps on my truck that I never take off... they work better in the MIchigan woods then the rock sliders for pivoting around trees on Drummond Island.... however, mine do not hang below the rocker panels, those that do tend to cause issues.... thats is unless you don't mind them being bent.....

Don't have side steps on my H1s. Use the Rocky Road sliders as steps for the wife on the H3. I have never wheeled anything with steps or nerf bars but I have seen a lot that do. Most have damaged them. Phaser I haven't seen anyone use the sidesteps as rocker panel protection. Glad it works for you.

Hi guys, Finally took some photos as promised. Sorry I did not have time to pose the truck for any magazine covers. Just trying to show you all what I have and what my earlier post was talking about. FYI, the box in the back that is aluminum and gloss black is a dog box for hunting dogs, and I did not have anyone to help me take it out for a shot from the back, but you can see it looks just like a regular diamond plate box from the rear. It also closes up the rather odd looking area in front of the rear fenders. Does someone who is more techno than me have an email address I can send the pictures to? I have tried to upload 3, then 2, then just 1 photo and it keeps saying after several minutes FILE TOO LARGE!!. I would really like to show you guys what I have because I think it is very inventive for the H-1 2 door model. Let me know or any advice would be appreciated. I typed the above, clicked on upload below, then at Browse, selected the photo(s) off the hard drive one at a time and hit OK. I do not know what else to do. I did check the embed picture in post, but that seemed to be what I was trying to do. HELP.
