I am looking to purchase a used H1. I was wondering what the average life time of this truck was (considering light to moderate offroading), before major overhauling needs to take place.

I can tell you the average mileage on the Marine Corps HMMWV's in the early to mid 90's was less than 50,000 before it went in for a rebuild/retirement, but they were close to 10 years old too.

Since I got mine in May of this year at 80,000 miles i have put 11,000 miles onto it and been offroading it basically every weekend since start of june also before I owned it, it belonged to a company that shipped it oversea (belgium and france to be specific) to showcase the offroad capabilities of the hummer etc etc...
So this vehicle honestly has been abused and it still is running strong with no signs of any need to overhaul it what so ever and it is 8 years old currently. if you want some detailed pics of the undercarriage and stuff just ask and next time I give it a good full cleaning ill take some good detailed pics of the undercarriage and stuff to show yuh... I would do it now but its covered in mud and weeds...

True, but also many of the marine corps hmmwv's were in contact with salt water on many occasions and that will rott away anything in very quick amount of time... as long as you keep your water fording in freshwater and stuff you should be able to have a good long life with your vehicle.

I have 140k VERY hard miles on my truck, mostly offroad. What's a major service? ;)

I have blown up a t-case, replaced the transmission, and gone through several sets of brakes, halfshafts, and broke one front prop shaft. Most of these issues were a result of forcing the truck through very difficult terrain, and pushing the truck to the breaking limit.

The engine has never had issues.

hmcoleap...Do you remeber any of the costs to do those repairs? I have another post going in another section basically asking people how expensive the H1 is to upkeep. (ie brake jobs, half shaft replacement, tune ups, etc...). I am looking to purchase a used one, but want to make sure I have the money to fix it! Thanks

Varies depending upon how hands on you are, and how much you depend on a local dealer.

I do most work myself, and some work goes to a local diesel truck place; I do repairs at dealership rarely.

Bought a reman'd t-case for about $900 and installed myself.
First time my transmission blew up, I purchased a brand new one from Real4wd.com for $1650 and installed myself, sold core to a local transmission shop for $400.

Front prop shaft was $250.

I do the brakes myself, so cost is for parts only - get pads at dealership, rotors at NAPA.
I get halfshafts from Scot Smith at Southern Axle Exchange, as well as steering boxes.
