So I am in the market for a Winch. I am looking at the Smittybilt XRC8. http://www.smittybilt.com/product/index/38.htm

The HP and Gear Ratio seem to be VERY good at the price. You guys out there with winches what do you have? Recommend? Any thoughts on things to look out for etc????

Hello Friend, I have a WARN 8000 LB. Winch which I purchased for $450 from a seller on craigslist.com you can also try ebay.com
If you buy the Winch new, you are going to pay top dollar.
Don't forget you're probably also going to need some or all of these other items. A Winch Hitch Mounting Plate for about $100 and possibly a pair of Battery Qiuck Disconnects for about $50 and possibly also a Winch Saver $25 Rubber cushion which goes on the cable at the hook to protect the Fairlead and also a Protective cover $40 and the some Winch operating accessories $80

Mile Marker makes pretty good winches and they are less expensive than Warns.
