boomer -> brakes grinding again (2/9/2008 11:09:30 AM)

i know this has happened to alot of us,with5000 mls brakes started grinding at hard braking brougt truck in and manager said that stones are getting caught in roters. refaced roters and everything was fine untill last week when brakes started grinding again. called dealer and they said thier was nothing they could do, that brakes were fine but will grind under hard braking because the pads they use are very hard. doesnt sound right to me,what does everyone think

Couldn't tell you, I've never had that problem and I have a real bad habit of braking late and hard. (just doesn't sound right, does it?)

Your brakes shouldn't grind unless the pads are shot. They may squeal some if you haven't been driving much our it sits long enough to form a layer of surface rust on the rotor. Is there another dealer in the area you can take it to? Your dealer's answer isn't the right one.

just to let you know there is a bulletin on this problem... the stones getting caught in the rotors/pads is a bs story... if it is coming from the rear then take your car back to the dealership and tell them to look up the bulletin... i cant exactly remember what the name and the number was... but some h3s came with bad rear brake rotors that need to be resurfaced... i remember because i just did one this week... its described as a grinding, grunt, squeaking sound...

TRUE...Someone else has posted this TSB on here before. Do a search and you'll find your answer.

I just got my H3 back today from HUMMER and here's what they did to fix the brake vibration problem.  I'll have to let y'all know how long it lasts.

Customer states vibration on hard braking:
Found: glazed rear brake pads, replaced with "ceramic compound pads"  Part Number 19165360  Pad Kit 5.017

Is this what makes the truck sound like its farting when you brake hard?

That sounds like a personal problem[8D][:D]

Never heard that before, no noises from braking.

When I but on my brakes hard, right before the truck stops completely it makes a noise from the back that sounds just like a big fart!

Well.... I said I'd let you know so I'm keeping the promise.  After less than a week and the dealer replacing the rear pads with metalic pads the vibration is back like it never left.  So much for wishful thinking.

Sounds like they needed to turn the rotors and because they didn't it sounds like they just ate up a set of new ceramic pads.

RealJeep -> RE: brakes grinding again (5/5/2008 6:22:29 AM)

It's OK because it's their dime.  I'll take it back and they can do it again and again and again.  Truck only has 10K on it so I'm sure they thought no need to turn the rotors.  Duh!  I have to take it back for a trim piece replacement that has warped anyhow, they can turn them then.
