SCOTTY, I NEED MORE POWER !!!!

TonyH3 -> SCOTTY, I NEED MORE POWER !!!! (2/5/2008 8:03:56 AM)

ok.  i love my H3.  LOVE the 35's.  one of the best 4x4's i have had.  but the lack of Hp is starting to get to me. maybe it's the AWD, maybe the 35's, but the lask of hp is bugging me.  I have had several blazers and s-10 trucks for winter beaters and the vortec v6's are soooo much more powerfull.  i took my 2000 blazer with 33's out yesterday for a lil off road and was loving the power.  feels way stronger than my 5 speed H3.  so what is the next step for my power upgrade??  i have the K&N.  was thinking about a new exhaust but i am not a big fan of loud pipes in anything but a V8.  need a huge power jump here.  i was even thinking about a supercharger, but can't afford the price..

thanks in advance..  [:D]

PCMforless.  Get it re-tuned!  You will like it.

BTW the 4.3 (190/191/195 HP) is not more powerful than you 3.5L I5(220HP).  Inline motors make a different power band, good low end TQ.  Your H3 is substantially heavier than a Blazer....(I had a 95 Jimmy with it all done up right and I know the difference you are talking about)....and your 35s suck up that low end TQ by the change in final drive line ratio.

re-gear your front & rear diffs for the 35's

did a search and read your post about the tune.  looks like somehting i need to look into.  the doaner brain thing sounds like a pain..  but i will check it out for sure.

GOFASTER -> RE: SCOTTY, I NEED MORE POWER !!!! (2/5/2008 11:09:56 AM)

Do you have the K&N drop in filter or the whole "cold air intake"?  I bought my H3 with the BB exhaust already on it, but I just installed the K&N CAI.  It made a "feel-able" difference.  I got into a little dig with another H3 on the street the other night.  From 0-60 I put around 4 lengths on him.  He was stock.  So, I think there is some power difference there.......And get the PCM for less tune.  That is my next mod.

Tony, the pcmforless tune will help you out a bunch. The vehicle is definitely nicer to drive after the tune. Also, they can get your speedometer set correctly for your 35s.

Take all of your mods off of it and trade it for an Alpha.  You are never going to feel "Real Power" from an I5 without considerable mods.  Just my $0.02.

Has the 3 been around long enough for an aftermarket cam change?  maybe get some of that low end torque back?

n0m4d -> RE: SCOTTY, I NEED MORE POWER !!!! (2/5/2008 5:07:32 PM)

After my S-10 crew cab was totaled I bought the H3 (w/ 5 speed) and now that I have the 35's on i am feeling the HP hurt too.  My 4.3 felt so much more powerful, esp pulling a trailer.  I'm planning the PCM thing in the spring when i get my summer car out.  I have been thinking that gearing would make a huge improvement.  Even before the tires by 5th gear was barely usable in rural driving now I dont even attempt 5th gear till i'm at 60.  That is a project that i dont even know where to start with.

With Variable valve timing, that's where the PCM program comes in.
