I have my 2008 H3 floating on jack stands waiting for her newly powder-coated wheels and 33" Hankook Dyna Pro MTs. Since I think it would be a good idea to include the spare in the tire rotation, with these being heavy lug tires, I want to add a sensor to the spare. Will this work if I follow the proper calibration set up? I'm assuming that because the earlier years did come with sensors in the spare that it will work. Are there any tire rotation secrets for MTs?

your spare should have the sensor in them already...I'm not aware that the 08's came without them. Are you sure you don't have one in the spare?

None at all...rubber valve stem....I read somewhere they stopped putting them in the spare for the 08s...

no chit...that's strange that they would stop using them in the spares. Does your manual still recommend that you put the spare into your tire rotation?

The manual doesn't show the spare in the rotation...GM's way of saving a few bucks maybe...I like the idea of rotating the spare in..that way when I'm due a new set of tires I can get something different and don't have to match the spare...who knows what cool tire might be just a couple years out!

I just picked up an 08, and they told me when I picked it up that the spare doesn't have the sensor anymore. I don't understand that logic.

I would say do it.

How much could GM really be saving? What a load of crap, my dealer wouldn't put my spare into the rotation unless I bought an allignment. Is he just trying to sell me more stuff, if I rotate the tires every 5,000 miles do you have to get an allignment each time?

Your dealer is screwing with you. I have rotated my spares in on any number of vehicles and never had to do an alignment.

yea trey...he's trying to pull one on you. An alignment is based on the geometry of your suspension, not what tire you have on the axle.

My guess would be the dealers were getting complaints from customers who put the spare in the rotation or had a flat and that the DIC was indicating a problem with the sensor because they did not go through the resetting procedure. I have had sensors on my two vettes for years (factory) and it's not difficult to reset them but not something a lot of folks would know how or want to do.

Yes, I just went out and checked the spare rims that came off of the wifey's 08, not TPM on the spare. I just put new BFG's on my 07 and it has one on the spare though. Who know's.

I also got the alignment with the new tires, thought because it is a bigger tire that it should have one. Was I wrong and just made a donation to them? The one good thing about the new tires is that I get the FREE rotations for 50,000 miles and they include the spare. Also, they reprogrammed the TPM's correctly, still haven't seen a warning on the DIC

well...do't put that much faith in the TPS system anyway, I don't have any sensors and have got 3 error messages in over a year and a half.

The vette system is completely different BTW..not the same animal at all.

Getting an alignment done when going to a bigger tire couldn't hurt...won't help much and is not needed but if it gave you peace of mind then no harm done

Hitting a pothole can throw off your alignement so it doesn't take much to throw it off a degree or two....yearly alignments should be done on a 4x4 anyway. I haven't had one doneon the h3 yet and at speeds over 60 mph it feels like your gonna die...death wobble and lane weaving are insane...I need tog get it done soon.

my 08' didn't have the TPM sensor on the spare either....and the dealership said it was supposed to and put one on it......go figure...

I figurred they where just trying to get more money out of me. What's the sense of having a full size spare if you don't include it in the roatation.

You should always use a full size spare on an all wheel drive vehicle just like you should always use the same size tires on an axle with a limited slip or traditional locking differential...... not to mention it would look silly to have a yellow doughnut hanging on the tailgate.
