Hi, I took my h2 to the dealer to get a oil change and when they do there 28 point inspection they said there was antifreeze leaking, i don't believe everything the dealer says so i took it and got it pressured tested somewhere else and they said there was a leak at the bottom of the seal?? They are telling me that i need to replace the water pump is that true or is it fixable? Also if i need to replace it, what would be a good price for a water pump and installation? They told me they had to take the hood off etc is that true?

Thanks you guys are alwasy the best

there's no technical reason to have to take the hood off, it probably just makes it easier to work on the center of the truck.  it can be done without taking it off, but you'll need to reach in from the side.  it they want to charge labor to take the hood off, they're just looking to rip you off.  don't know about the costs yet, i haven't had to replace mine.

MSRP on an 03-05 water pump is $251.44

06 is $260.00

07 is $255.62

I see no good reason to take the hood off... skidplate, yes.

and... while you/they are in there change the two serpentines....

He wanted to know costs... a dealership isn't gonna give him any breaks...

Mine would cost me $165....

and that isn't far fetched... I just installed one on a 8.1L for work and my companies cost was very close to what I posted for my cost..

Ok then.... you're probably getting a rebuild then....

I generally use OEM parts.. so I pay a little more and do it half as much.... but that point can be argued...

IMO, the savings on a rebuilt water pump is not enough to justify not buying a new one.  Once the seal gos, it is time to replace the pump, it really cannot economically be "fixed", needs replacement.  Good luck.  Glad the H2 guys got the hood issue covered, got no clue on that one.

All of my rebuilt water pumps have failed quickly, within a year or so. I just don't trust them.

I had the water pump on my 2003 H2 replaced by Kyle at Weseloh Hummer In San Juan Capistrano. I don't have the paperwork with me but new OEM pump and labor was $450-$500 total.
Tustin and Cerritos Hummer in Socal have good service departments also. Not sure about LA area.
