Bennersj -> rocker protection (1/30/2008 10:20:51 AM)

Does anybody know anything about the quality of the SMA rocker panel protection bars.  There is a set of chrome ones on ebay I am considering buying and powder coating.  If not i would like to get either the OEM or Rocky sliders.  Any opinions, suggestions and or experiences?  Here is the ebay link for the ones I'm looking at.

I don't know the brand names of them... but I can personally say the set I put on Trey's 3 were awesome...

The Rocky Road sliders are awesome. I didn't get the OEM rocker panel protection bars because I didn't think they looked very stout. I have seen a few get bent up also.

Muddy which ones did you put on Treys?

i've OEM and they've held up great for me.  in fact, they're so strong, they out lasted my 1st h3.  i was able to salvage them after my h3 was totalled.

rocky's are awesome too.  i dont think you can go wrong w/ either of these.  SMA's i have no clue...

I think they were the OEM ones from Hummer.... I think about half the people here that bought rails bought OEM.... and a good majority of the rest went with the Rockys...

I did a quick search to poll what people used and those were the two major ones I saw.

Rocky roads or OEM are the way to go.  Those ebay's are ???????  questionable at best.  The cost of stripping chrome to then powder coat will save you nothing, might cost you more than a good deal on the others that we know are good!  [;)]

Pretty much what I've seen here on the forums is that everyone with OEM or Rocky Road is happy with them, just go with personal preference. I agree with Doc - why go with stripping and powdercoating? SMA made some good stuff, but not good enough to keep them from going out of business.

I like the way the steps bolt onto the OEM ones... and you can select 2 or 4 steps based on your needs...

Trey124 -> RE: rocker protection (1/31/2008 5:03:54 AM)

The OEM are the way to go, because the steps can bolt directly to them, plus they are heavy duty.  They are meant to take the abuse, never seen them bent up.  They wiegh 50 lbs. each.  I've have the chrome package on my H3 and the black rock rails look sharp.

Muddydawg75 -> RE: rocker protection (1/31/2008 12:05:42 PM)

and the holes lined up to the factory locations perfectly...

Doc Olds -> RE: rocker protection (1/31/2008 12:11:00 PM)

Can you have factory splash guards and the GM/OEM rocker protection bars, or is it one or the other.  I read somewhere????   (CRS)  ...that splash guards won't fit with the rocker protection package.  Anybody got both?

Trey has the instructions, do they say anything about that Brud?

Muddydawg75 -> RE: rocker protection (1/31/2008 12:14:45 PM)

Yeah Doc the Rock Rails stop before reaching the wheel wells, so you can add the splash guards and/or fender flares to the H3.  If your planning on going off road I would not recomend putting them on because Camou2 can tell you they will rip off.  He has lost a mud flap on his new Aplha and his older 06 H3 he ripped off the fender flare and mud guard.
