Hi Folks,

I am the happy owner of a 2003 H2 as of yesterday,  I have one problem that I am trying to get solved.

When I press the onstar button the following things take place,

1). The Onstart light blinks RED

2). The radio displays "phone"

3). I hear a pop noise from the speakers

4). The red light goes out and the radio continues to display "phone".

To get my radio and CD back in operation I have to pull the onstar fuse and put it back in.

Anyone have a good idea what the problem is?  If it's the onstar hardware, What is the replacement cost?  I would really like to take advantage of Onstar,  Thanks in advance for an helpful information.

You need an onstar subscription.  Read the onstar manual, if you do not have one, go to the web site.

PS............On Star SUCKS!   I don't need no stinkin On Star.

Thanks for the info Doc.   Its really nice to know that Onstar sucks.

Actually I did call Onstar by phone beforehand to start a subscription.  They said to go to the vehicle and press the blue button and an attendant would get me signed up.  When I did this this when I had the flashing red light.

So with that said, Back to my original question. Has anyone had or heard of this problem with the flashing red light that locks up the Radio?  If it's the onstar hardware, What is the replacement cost?  I would really like to take advantage of Onstar,  Thanks in advance for any helpful information.

After research I found that My 2003 H2 was due for the Analog to Digital OnStar Upgrade.  I can take this to my local Dealer and they will replace the OnStar unit for free with a $231.00 one year subscription.

I wouldn't be without Onstar.  Some like it, some don't, I do.  I like the piece of mind knowing if I'm in a wreck its there.  If I forget my cell phone its there.

I like the hands free calling that is linked to my verizon cellular account.
The vehicle locater is cool in the event that my pride and joy is stolen.
I guess there are some big brother implications to all this but what the hell. I am also looking at an OnStart hack that puts a serial port on the OnStar box.  You can then hook up your laptop to it and it functions as an onboard GPS. Suweeet!

I had the full Onstar service and they diagnosed a couple of problems for me over the phone when I was up in the mountains. It really helped to know what was going on with the truck. The phone worked very well also. I wouldn't be without it.
