I made a appointment to have the Rancho Lift Installed next Monday! 2008 Alpha, Think I will have any issues? Kit says its made for 06-07! And yes I'm adding 36" tires! Please give some feed back! Should I go with larger? 38" Because I got the power! Give some feed back! Thanks

38's are a big heavy tire have you lifted one? i would say that would be hard on your ride i have a suburban with 37.5 mickeys and i have gone through a couple steering boxes and pumps and stabilizer shocks. if you do go with the 38 get the  lightest rim you can find without taking away from the strength.

I would make them verify it will fit. Some of the bumpers that fit the 06/07 don't fit the 08 Alpha.

There were changes made to the frame for 08 to accommodate the V8.  It may not be a smooth install.

It may be worth checking with a parts department to find out what other front end parts were changed for 08.

going over a 35 with any amount of lift is not a good idea...the halfshafts and cv joints will not hold up turning 38's. And just cause the alpha has a v8 doesn't mean you have the power....the v8 in the alpha is a small 8 and not the most amazing as far as the #'s it's putting out. I was running 39's in my dodge and was pushing over 370 hp and it was sluggish...even with gears!

Agree with IMPY.  The H3 won't be able to last long with 38's, that's big pick-up truck stuff not little SUV tires.  You'll definately have to drop the front punkin to keep your half shafts from destroying themselves but IMO the drive line is too mid sized SUV to hold up to big rubber.
If the H3 had a solid front axle then it would probably do just fine but the soccer Mom's wouldn't buy it because it rode too rough.  Funny how they compromise tuff for fluff when it comes to 4x4's now days.  Even the Jeep has sold out to softie crowd.

If he wants the low down on on that setup, he should try and contact our member INKED out of Hawaii.

He was running:

RANCHO 4" lift
315 / 70R17 "35's" PRO COMP EXTREME M/T TIRES
17 x 10 PRO COMP EXTREME RIMS

Then when he tested the setup:

He got this:

And this on a separate occasion:

Then:

"Since this is just a street ride now I went bigger on my tires adding Super Swampers IROK's 36 x 13.50's for a more aggressive look"!

His last thoughts on the modification:

"I wouldn't recommend having this setup on extreme trails though, this is all for "looks"! I am in the market for a 'beater' that I can take on the trails but I still love my H3 - it's funny when I pull up next to an H2 and the driver actually has to look up rather than looking down at me, this ride definitely turns heads on the streets".

This thread goes back to the old hotrodders rule of thumb. Build one thing up and break another,  This happens to every vehicle.  Put a 500hp power plant in and break the rear, built the rear end or drive line, built that up and break the tranny.. ect ect..

That's exactly what I did on my last project truck and it was part of the fun. However,
stuff on a 77 Ford 4X4 pickup was a lot cheaper and easier to come by.....The junk yard
guys knew me on a first name basis as well as the guys at the drive shaft shop.

This also reminds me of another thread a while ago about H3 Tie Rod Ends.

http://www.hummerforums.com/fb.asp?m=90575

Seems like some of our rigs were breaking them routinely.

Are there upgraded tie rods or half shafts that help avoid any breakage? Don't have any intent of doing a Lift, but would be nice to have the upgrades.
