The Honda rider was traveling at such a 'very high speed', his reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h (155 mph) before the bike hit the slow moving car side-on at an intersection. At that speed, they predicted that the rider's reaction time (once the vehicle came into view) wasn't sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Stockholm Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish Police and Road Safety Department. The sign above the display also noted that the rider had only recently obtained his license.

At 250 KM (155 mph) the operator is traveling at 227 feet per second. With normal reaction time to SEE-DECIDE-REACT of 1.6 seconds the above operator would have traveled over 363 feet while making a decision on what actions to take. In this incident the Swedish police indicate that no actions were taken.

In other words, they didn't even have time to say, 'Oh, SH!T!'

That was probably the most merciful thing that could have happened in this case.

Not saying that the motorcycle rider wasn't at fault. But that's exactly why 1. I don't ride Crotch Rockets anymore (my dumb a** will run as hard as it will go), sold it and got a Roadking. and 2. Mainly ride on back country PAVED roads if I can help. I love riding too much to give it up. But that scares the crap out of me. All of the crap that I've been through to lose everything on a bike. Don't get me wrong, that could happen on ANY bike. This summer we were going to "bike night" and there was about 4 of us, one of our buddies fell behind and got cut off by some woman in Rav4, he rear ended her ON A HARLEY! You could see his face print on her back window. See told the cops that when pulled across two lanes from the gas station she never saw him. Every time I read one of these or have a close call, I get closer and closer to hanging it up.

Thanks for the article TigerLily, helps remind us that ride to be careful while we are out there.

I too gave up crotch rotchets (loved riding fast way to much) and now ride Harley Streetglide. I'm not saying this type of accident only happens to crotch rocket riders. however High speed accidents are the worst. if you search the net you can find all kinds of pics and vids of motorcycle accidents.

Anyway those of you that ride please ride safe
