BlockBuster does rent BlueRay dics, NetFlicks too... I've had the BR a while now in my PS3. I've got it tied in with HDMI to a 42 LCD 1080P and man it is sweet. My surround system is Onkyo 7.1 amp with Cerwin Vega speakers and a Sony sub-woofer. It frikkin cranks. I've got the iPod Onkyo dock too and I can play my iPod through it and control it with the Onkyo remote. SWEET! If you guys do get a BR unit, get the PLANET EARTH series on BlueRay. I've got the BBC version narrated by David Attenburough.

A LITTLE BLURAY NEWS Paramount Set to Drop HD DVD for Blu-ray: How many "death blows" will it take for Blu-ray to finally win the format war against HD DVD? I've been hearing that phrase (and writing about it) since July 2007. Well here comes another one. Following in the footsteps of Warner Brothers' abandonment of the HD DVD format, reports are surfacing that Paramount is headed to Blu-ray as well. link to article

I think BlueRay will ultimately win out over HD DVD. Too many major houses have made the decision for BR. Also note that the rental companies are focused on BR as well. One cool thing is when you buy and HD player you get 5 free movies. It took me a couple of months to get mine. You can pick your movies from 5 lists. They don't guarantee you'll get the pick, they can sub another flick if they want. I got mine in and was delighted they didn't substitute BLAZING SADDLES, that is a great movie I can watch over and over and to have it on BR is even sweeter. Another great flick was Hart's War. Excellent war movie with Bruce Willis. I got Devil's Rejects but for some reason it doesn't play on my PS3. There is a warning on the DVD case that this is the latest in BR and you may need to update your firmware. Well I have my PS3 hooked up to my wireless network at home and did the latest firmware update and it still doesn't work. Bummer, I really wanted to see that on BR. Maybe Sony will update their PS3 again soon to make it work. I absolutely love Blade Runner, one of my all time favorites. I have to get it on BR too. I have the original release of Blade Runner and the director's cut which I didn't like as much. I found the narration by Harrison Ford to really work with that movie. I hope the BR version has the narration as in the original I don't see any reason why most popular films no matter how old can't or won't be updated to HD. It's going to be interesting. I found StarGate at Fry's on BlueRay and it's another good flick.

Do you know why Sony is pushing BR so much? It's simple and factual. Sony gets a royalty for every single physical BR DVD that is sold from the other studios, which I believe is between $2 to $3 PER DISC, hence the higher prices of BR Discs compared to HD-DVD discs. MOST people don't know that. HD-DVD however is open-source from my understanding, which means there is no royalty'd owed to anybody, hence the cheaper prices of the movie. THAT's why I'll never own a BR player. I'm not out to make Sony any richer and pay more money for a BR movie when I can get a HD-DVD that is the exact same picture resolution and quality for cheaper. I don't understand why so many movie studios are switching to BR. I guess the power of Sony Marketting is what they see. HD-DVD and BR both have the same resolution on their video, which is 1920x1080. They both can do native 1080p video compression, but HD-DVD has more capabilities as far as streaming multiple feeds and also has alot more interactive capabilities. It's unfortunate that Sony chooses to spend so much money shoving BR down people's throats even though HD-DVD is superior overall. As far as picture quality goes, they are both great and you probably won't see a difference between BR and HD. Even for people that can notice those tiny pixel imperfections like myself and the others, you probably won't see a difference if you have a BR and HD-DVD player hooked up to the same TV playing the same movie. I'm very Anti-Sony because everything I have ever owned Sony has only lasted a year or two. They have the best marketting in the world, and their high-end stuff is great, but even though the quality is good, their equipment doesn't last half as long as Samsung, Toshiba, etc.
