Any recommendations on which cold air instake system to get. I have thought about AirRaid, K&N and Volant. All of them look like they install slightly different. Thanks!

I did K&N, took about an hour to install. Fairly simple. I love the sound and it is faster and more responsive. My mileage has gone down in town as I rev the thing (Gunny Highway) way to much. Mileage is better on the Highway roughly 1.5 mpg.

Does the K&N use the factory air box? From the pictures it looks like replaces the side, but I can't tell for sure. Thanks!

You can do both its up to you. I have just the filter in the stock box $40.00 or you can buy the system a little over $200. but the system i believe works better but gives you a loud noise inside the truck

Monday night I installed an Airaid intake on mine. It uses the lower half of the factory airbox and a supplied metal frame to build up the sides. It took about 20 minutes to put together and put on. So far it seems to add a little more punch off the line and a great throaty groan under acceleration. I haven't checked the mpg yet. I'm hoping for a little gain. After looking at it, I almost wish I had gone with the K&N set up. Just for the intake tube. The stocker is not the best I'm sure. I'm thinking about looking for another aftermarket tube to slap on there too. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does anyone with the K&N cold air intake have any concerns about the air box not being closed (even though it seals against the hood)?

Yes, the best gains are by going with the entire system vs using the stock box. On my truck I left the stock box and used a K&N filter becuae I didn't want to tempt fate. My truck used to see a lot of mud and creek & river crossings and I wanted to know that my stock box had a lid to keep out any flying water. On the H3 I'll probably replace the whole unit. More than likely I'll go with the Gibson exhuast, but the side swept single (I think it still exits out the back), and not the split rear.

Just curious do these aftermarket intakes make a weird noise? If so, which one makes the least?

Please forgive the naive question, but what is a cold intake for?
