After offroading most of the day yestreday, I drove backe home at an avg. speed of 70Mph for about one hour. After getting home I noticed I forgot to move to 4Hi-Open mode, and that I drove all the way with 4Hi-Locked. I have one suggestion to GM and one question. 1. The H3 beeps fro every other reason (open door, lights, seat belts etc). Why not put a beep for this situation also? 2. The truck seems O.K this morning, but can anyone tell me what are the damages (If any) to expect in the near future? Thanks Haim

I think a beep would be annyoing when offroad, but wondered myself why the lights on the dash dont light up red up something else non-intrusive that would allow you to visibly see the TC case was locked.

I wonder what your gas mileage for that trip? I am also surprised you didn't notice your revs and engine noise.

Are you talking about having it in 4 high instead of AWD (normal)?

Driving in 4 high shouldn't be that big of a deal. Like stated before, as long as it was mostly straight driving and not a lot of low speed turning you'll be fine. Even if you were turning at low speed, you would have just noticed the truck learching. I haven't driven my H3 at those speeds in 4 high yet, but I would run my Silverado at highway speeds a lot like that in the snow or ice. When wusses would be doing 20, I'd be the idiot going 80. These 2 trucks have pretty much the same system (instatrack). The only difference is the H3 doesn't have 2 hi. If I'm wrong I'm sure I will be called out.

Gotta agree. The only difference between 4x4 "normal" and 4x4 "lock" is the torque split if I'm not mistaken. The electronic Borg-Warner transfer case locks a center coupling in 4 lock to 50/50 the torque between front and rear. In normal mode you're still in four wheel drive but the center coupling is unlocked to send torque mostly to the rear wheels. Unless you felt the front wheels scrubbing around corners or the whole driveline felt tight I wouldn't worry about it. The B-W Trans Case is pretty dang tough!

You are correct. In AWD it is a 60/40 split.

OMG! If your transfer case were a breakfast food, it would be TOAST! I'm positive that irreparable damage was done to your ride! Trade it in NOW!!! I'm sure everything is cool. I would be fipping out as well, so I know it's easier for me to say! Even if you did do some turns, you would just get some bindage and wheel chatter. At the most you would just cook the trans case or diff fluid. But that would be a stretch.
