Hello Gents,

Are air intakes worth it on these vehicles or would a drop-in K&N filter do just fine? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I used the drop in K&N and streamlined the air tube as shown here.

I do not see how you can go wrong with a K&N or other brand hi flowing filter.  We have a small bit of AWD dyno info that suggests that the K&N filter alone is good for 8 HP in an 06 H3?  An intake tube to replace the resonator box helps quite a bit more and can be made for a lot less than buying a kit, like D Vader's, and others.  More air in means better efficiency, and should help squeeze all the MPG you can.

I put a quick fit Airaid in my 07, got a few gains in MPG and alot more punch in the pedal. I also added a TBS, not sure what it did for me because I did them both at the same time, some will tell you it does nothing. Thought that I would tell you anyway just for information.

look for an old post by fireman.....he did some pretty good testing on the stock airbox and proved how damn restrictive it really is. The airbox sucks air through small hole in the fender...terrible design.

Well, I just added the K&N filter for now.  I was thinking of going with the Airiad intake but decided against it because it reuses the stock intake "accordion" tubing to the TB.  Am I correct in that assumption?

I think you have done fine.  I also agree on your choice and logic to get there!

Speaking of the Air Box....Is the 06 box the same as the 07 or 08 box?  I would assume that since the 07 has a bigger engine that the air intake would be a little bigger.  Right or wrong?

I belive the '07-'08 intake is different due to new EGR or idle-valve plumbing rather than the displacement increase.

An ECM reflash with custom engine tune is supposed to provide the most improvement for the dollar.  Many people have also done cia, exhaust, and ECM tune and have reported very noticable drivability gains.  Don't forget to tell the engine tuner that you have cai and exhaust if you do the tune.
