I'm considering subscribing to XM radio. I have a 2004 H2 with the touchscreen nav unit. I have been hearing that most GM vehicles 2003 onward already have the XM tuner and antenna installed. When I push the band button it certainly cycles to the XM display.
Can somebody please confirm whether I'm ready to call XM and sign up or would I still have to purchase some additional equipment. Thanks in advance for your help.

i would believe that if you get the XM display then all you will need is the unit id # and call them up.

Thanks for you response. I presume that the unit ID is to be found on a sticker on the radio. I shall haul the radio out this weekend to see. If the sticker is not there, is there any other way of calling up the id?

I seem to remember someone telling me the radio ID was on the XM module behind the glove compartment....

I didn't have Factory XM in my 03.... so if you are not XM ready I know someone that can get you a plug and play deal at a reasonable price....

Check the XM channels that you can cycle through. It should show you the radio ID.

On the factory GM radio, if you press the band button and the XM1 comes up, you have the necessary equiptment installed from the factory.

To get the radio id of your factory radio, go to channel 1, XM preview channel, and press the info button.  Your radio id will be displayed.  Then call Xm and they will help you with the rest...

Not standard equiptment.  Some have it, and some don't.  I've installed XM on 3 Hummers this month (1 H2, and 2 H3's) that didn't have the factory equiptment.

Some brands of aftermarket radios will show the XM radio id, but most do not (I believe the XM equiptment is 3rd party made for most complanies).  My Alpine unit does not display the radio id.  Gotta look it up on the box, on the equiptment, or in the manual where I wrote it down...
