Hummer loses...
http://picasaweb.google.com/dmb7280/11907Accident
On Friday night on my way to Love Field, I was stuck in stop-and-go traffic on the North Dallas Tollway exiting Mockingbird Ln. Much to my surprise, an 18,000 lbs. custom truck/camper (http://www.earthroamer.com/index.html) smashes me from behind causing a 4 car pile up (me being the initial impact).  Fortunately, no one was severely injured, only the usual bumps and bruises.

Order of impacts: Earth Roamer --> H3 (me) --> Volvo S40 --> Ford Explorer

Considering the damage my H3 did to the Volvo on the 2nd impact, its a good thing it wasn't hit directly.  The driver (25 yr old woman on her way to pick up her fiance) probably wouldn't be alive.  You guys need to know that the H3's 5-star crash rating is not a lie.  I can't tell you how lucky I was that I was in a Hummer.  It saved my life...

The guy who caused the accident was found at fault and issued a ticket, though I don't know the details of the citation.  In addition, the accident report won't be available for another 8 days, so I don't have details regarding the speed during impact, etc.  One thing that you can see from my pics (fortunately, the camera caught it b/c I didn't see this initally) is the 2-3 car length skid mark my back-right tire left on the cement barrier (Yeah, my rear-end climbed a wall...sideways).  Pretty scary stuff...

Talked to a Sewell Collision rep today, and he said my frame was damaged pretty severely and he considered it totalled.  Haven't talked to the adjuster yet, but it sounds like Ol' Blue is going to be retired.  Already started looking at the inventory at Sewell.

Anyways, just wanted to share the news.  Everyone PLEASE drive safe and buckle up!

Lil D

Sorry enviroment, but SUVs save lives.

Holy Crap!

Glad to hear your OK and good to know the H3 can take a beating.

Hopefully insurance will treat you good enough so its easy to get into a new one.

Holy **** ! ! !

Of all the goddamn vehicles on the road to get run over by.....A Frickin' Earth Roamer ! ! ! !

Thank heavens you are all right bro.

Damn, I wanna cry seeing  Ol' Blue in such a state. Made me go back and look over the pics from our Rough Creek trip.

Is it at Sewell Collision here in Dallas?

Glad to hear you are okay and the H3 took good care of you. That Earth Roamer looks like it had temporary tags on it - new driver of that thing.

Dang, Red Raider, that's awful.  I hope it gets resolved for you quickly so you can get back in an H3.

Thanks for the pics and link.  I have never seen an Earth Roamer.

The poor thing has yet to be OFFICIALLY PRONOUNCED DEAD and you're already picking the carcass clean ! ! ! !

Just what kind of people do we have here on this site?

Opportunistic bastards ! ! !

Note: It might not be a bad idea to at least recover the rock rails and cross bars for the next vehicle...
That's a grand right there that I bet wont be considered in the settlement.

A few memories from better times--

Yep we are a sick group.      What I was getting to is what you mentioned Gunner.  Chances are the Ins. Co. is not gonna give you squat for the extras, take them for the next one while you still can, or sell em to a guy that is willing to help you out.

First off, glad to see that everybody was OK.  Hopefully your insurance comes through for you and sets it right.  Those cross-bars and light bar look salvageable, but the rest of it looks all bent up.  If you have the navi I'd rip that out too.  It sucks but get what you can back out of it just in case the insurance guys scam it out of you.

Good luck, and hope everything turns out well.

Damn Dave! ! !

You were "corn-holed"  by Truck # 71-- hand built-- 16,000 lbs -- and barely 3 weeks old.

Inquiring minds wanted to know......(Sorry, I just had to know what the odds were of getting hit by one of those things)

Ya know.....If they do total your truck, you at least need to save one of the tow hooks off of it for a memento.

A paper weight for your desk perhaps. (Just a suggestion)
