Gunner,
I agree. If you look up under the vent there are about 20 small holes about 1/8" in diameter. No way leaves could get sucked in at that point.

geez - guys, that's not the issue - I only asked how do you get the darn things off. I only told why because of past experience on forums, people ask the "why" question. Hell, I want to remove them and burn them - just because I can.

For the record: Even though they are not a bit functional, I think the H3 would look pretty nekkid without the vent /breather covers or hood louvers. I sort of view them as a simple styling queue and/or omage(sp) to the H1 and H2. Same goes for the hood handles.....
Reminds me of an interview (think it was on Auto Week) a few years ago with a Subaru engineer. He was asked if the scoop on the hood of the vehicle they were reviewingwas functional (interviewer obviously knew it wasn't). The engineer replies "Yes, it's is fully functional...... its function is to sit there on top of the hood and look cool."

I actually thought the passenger side was for the intake. The air cleaner box does lead to the fender area, so I thought it was getting air through that thing. Plus, you always see snorkels installed in that area. I think I'll still tell people that... I hate it when stuff is non-functional lol...
