Default my hummer runs hot!

She stays consistent at mid line while driving but when you come to a stop she climbs up to the 3/4 line. We replaced the thermostat and that helped but she still climbs about halfway in between the 1/2 line and 3/4. I don't think I've ever heard the fan come on though???

first of all unless you have installed an electric fan, the odds of hearing the fan come on is low. second, the guage is there for reference. Once the truck starts hitting numbers that you should worry about, a message will come up on the DIC. your other option is to physically check the actual temperature with a scan tool.

The fan seems to be running just fine. She only gets hot when we stop.

I have noticed that my new to me H3 will climb over the 1/2 way mark when running the ac and going about 75 here in Arizona.
Will change the thermostat in May when we get to Washington state because it is probably the original one and I like to know that I have updated the part. Comes from flying Huey's for almost 30 years...can't be to safe!!

"Way over half" to 3/4 is NOT overheating or running HOT! What you are seeing is completely normal, nothing to get excited about.

There are gobs of threads on this, just search them out. You need to understand that the dash temp gauge is not an accurate instrument, rather it is basically an idiot light with a needle.

The H3 has three layers of driver notification overheat protection, 3/4 is not remotely approaching the first.

I've had the water pump changed, thermostat changed, ECT changed and my gauge still shows this all the time unless I see smoke coming out of the hood I'm not so worried about it.

That is about 220F on my scangauge, I know I have another 20 degrees or so to go before the car shuts off the A/C but in my mind when the A/C is shut off you are at the point where damage is happening or about to if not fixed now. I understand that these I-5's run hot and I understand that they run cleaner for emissions at higher temperatures but if I have a 190 degree thermostat then the cooling system should be able to keep it pretty close to that temperature, 200-205 max. There just isn't enough reserve cooling capacity for these motors to keep it at 205 degrees. I do not look forward to 100+ temps when summertime comes and I see the needle edging 230 in stop and go traffic, that may not be "too hot" but it will shorten component life.

My wife's stock, base H3 runs at half on the gauge, 205-210 all day long in any conditions. :/ Some people have all the luck but for the rest of us?

I thought mine was running a tad high as well with it going almost to the 3/4 mark. I run anywhere from 195 to 206 with my engine scanner without much change on the actual gauge.
