H3 stuck in 4 wheel drive high
I have a 2006 H3 5 cylinder (I hate it too) with 62,000 miles and sometimes it sticks in 4 wheel drive. When first started it will run a few minutes in normal 4 wheel drive then I notice a change in the steering as it goes into 4 WD high lock. I have tried cycling in and out of 4 WD high and low while in neutral as well as driving backwards in circles in 4 WD high as suggested by another post on here but to no avail. I have also noticed when in 4 WD low lock that it makes a whining noise from the front passenger side? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

from what I've read on this forum, I'd say it's the plastic shift fork also. Either in 2007 or 2008 they were switched out with aluminum ones because of their common failure. Search "shift fork" on here to see how you can get it fixed.

Plastic Shift Fork
Thanks everyone for your posts you certainly pointed me in the right direction and saved me a lot of $$$$. Had my vehicle checked by a Hummer technician and to no surprise it was the plastic shift fork. I even talked to GM and they paid 50% of the repair under their good will program since it was out of warranty. Mileage when problem occurred 57,000 Miles.
Thanks again

Does the shift fork do its thing only when shifting between 4WD modes, or does it work during normal shifting? What I'm trying to determine is the likelihood of it breaking if your rarely or never switch between 4WD modes. Hope this makes sense.

Shift Fork
Mark,
Its not a matter of if its a matter of when! It will wear with out you switching in and out and eventually break. Its a bad design on hummers part and they are well aware that's why they changed the part to aluminum.
