Good time for a trade?

RE: Good time for a trade?
I was at the Dealership yesterday (not to trade, just have a bad habit of hanging out there). Now is the best time to buy one, wish I could say the same thing for the trading part.

Yeah, I don't think I'm a prime candidate for a trade. Lots of desert pinstriping from narrow trails; 2 rock scrapes (one on rear fender, one on bumper); dented front skid; 24K miles in one year; 2 chips in windshield; "reshaped" rear bumper from landing on rocks; 5 gouged wheels from rock scrapes . . . so, those trade in estimates are definitely high for a truck like mine

They love what I've done to my H3, but they did tell me that I would be better off trying to sell it myself instead trading. Because I have changed everything on it that I would get more money from someone that liked what I did as opposed to trading it in for the masses.
Did I say that right?

Values are pretty good in CT. I know a couple dealers who are offering decent numbers on trades. A lot are also offering good customer loyalty as well as other discounts that you can get. It really depends on who is still having good profits and those who are still slow.

I went to carmax by my house to get an appraisal, just to see where I stand (08 Alpha w/ 4800 miles), and they came back with $22,000!! They didn't even drive it. Said the market for V8 SUV's is affected by current market conditions. [:@] They got an e-mail from their corporate offices that they showed me that said they may have to stop taking in large SUV's for now. Pissed, I went to the Jeep dealership, and acted like I was interested in a , and told them to appraise my trade, and they came back with 26,500. Tough market right now. Oh well, good thing I LOVE my truck!

Just for kicks and giggles I went to several dealers to check out vehicles and to see what my 08’ Alpha (w/5000 miles) was worth. First stop was the Dodge dealer because they had the $2.99/gal. gas for 3 years offer. I looked at a $40k pickup and the best they could do was $20k for my Alpha. I actually told them they were crazy and left.
Next stop was a Chevy dealer where I looked at a Silverado pickup that listed for $41k and they offered my $25k for the Alpha. But with the GMS discount and cash incentives the cost of the truck was down to $32k. That’s a $9000 discount.
The Hummer dealer is offering an 08’ Alpha for $42,495 but after GMS discount it’s down to $38,141 plus a $5k cash incentive lowers it to $33,141. That’s a discount of $9354.00.That's pretty hard to pass up! I didn’t bother to get a price on my Alpha because it’s an 08’ and that’s just about what I paid. Besides I couldn’t trade my Alpha even if I wanted to because when you purchase a vehicle through the GM Friends & Family Program you are required to keep the vehicle at least 6 months and I’ve not yet had my H3 that long.
I think the trade-in value of your H3 (or H2) depends on the area in which you live.

RE: Good time for a trade?
I checked on trading my '07 3.7 Adventure (described in first post) for a Solar Flare Alpha this week. They offered me $21K for mine with $10K off theirs. I told them today if they would give me $23K I will do it. We shall see...
For the record, I looked at a YukonXL at $50K, they offered me $15,000 for mine vs. $40K for theirs. I politely told them to honk bobo.
