Default Gas Mileage on an H3

Hello everyone.

I'm new here, so please forgive me if this is an old topic. I looked in the FAQ and didnt see it.

I just bought a red 2007 H3 with 59,000 miles. Standard 265/75/16 tires, standard air filter, no accessories yet.

After my first tank of gas, I just calculated I'm getting 11.5 mpg around
town.

Does that sound typical to everyone?

Aside from taking my spare off the back door, anyone have any good tips
to improve on 11.5 mpg?

Thanks.

33's- ALL city driving, no spare and top tier fuel, periodic tb, maf,& induction cleaning, and I get 13-15mpg's. Could be more, however, I drive my rig, like I stole it.

A throttle body and MAF cleaning is a good start, put a new air filter in and change engine oil. Tire pressure should be checked as well. With all that, if you are making a lot of short trips with a lot of stops and/or not letting things get up to operating temp then that is about right. When I lived 2 miles from work with 10 stops along the way I would only get 10-11 mpg. On the hwy I would get about 17 mpg.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll check how dirty my tb, maf & induction are at this point. My tire pressure is right on and all fluids and filters were changed when I bought it last week.

I cant imagine that cleaning will make a 1.5-2.5 mpg increase, but I'll give it a shot.

Right on what?? Your MPGs suck.

My 305 MTZs are at 38PSI like everybody's tire should be to avoid TPMS issues, and when I do a road trip, 40 PSI.

With performance mods (Intake, PP TB, PCM tune, E Fan conversion & CAT back exhaust) and all the off road goodies and me in it my 3 weighs almost 6000# and I still easily get 16+ all over town, and 18+ on the highway (and on some occasions I have done a lot better). Taking off your spare ain't gonna do squat. Big trick with these trucks, easy does it from starts, do not charge red lights, do not bother driving over 77MPH, and stick with quality fuel.

Doc, if you're getting 16+ around town, I have got to learn more about these performance mods you mentioned. Can you elaborate on them?

I'm driving on LT's (not p-metric) tires and keep 40psi in them.
1 other thing for you to check is "brake drag". Lift your rig, all wheels off the ground and spin each wheel, they should all spin with the same effort. Also, sitting on level ground, in drive at idle (650rpm) without the brake depressed, your rig should move.
