Default DVD/ NAV Install Help!?

Hey guys this is my first post... Nice to meet you all, now to my problem... I just picked up my H3 last week. I took my DVD/ NAV out of my old vehicle and need any help I can get with my install. It is a Kenwood DDX6019 Monitor/DVD and a KNA-G510 Navigation system. My normal source of information for install help and products is Crutchfield but as you may or may not know there is absolutely no information about H3's on there. How does the H2 radio and wiring harness compare to that of the H3? I also want to know if I need to install another antenna for the navigation system or if the factory antenna that is already on the roof is good to go. I also want to keep XM and onstar if possible. So pretty much any help or advice that I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You should be able to install the radio into your H3. To do this you will need to get an Onstar interface adapter
http://peripheralelectronics.com/per...mah24instr.pdf
You will have to install a GPS antenna, either on the dash or on the roof. You won't be able to use the factory
installed XM but you can add a XM receiver to your Kenwood radio for less than $100

or if you would like sirius for an Alpine radio try this.

Thanks for the response jettech737. So even though the H3 is already wired and activated for XM I still need to get a tuner that is compatible with Kenwood? Would I still be able to use the factory antenna for XM? Thanks again

you should be able to get away with the factory xm ant. but the kenwood... if xm compat. will need an xm reciever in order to get the xm signal from the satalite and turn it into something your kenwood head unit can understand. Kinda like using a cable box even though the tv is cable ready.

Cool got it. Yea the Kenwood is both XM and sirius compatible. Is the factory antenna only compatible with XM or could I connect it to a sirius receiver as well?

I believe its XM only, they use a totally different plug. Pull the stock head unit out and there should be a light green and pink plug (I think, been awhile) they are your xm antenna plugs. When sirrus first came out they used a different plug setup then XM, may have changed over the years but I doubt it, they make to much $$$ on antenna sales.

There are two differerant kinds of xm antennas the old kind use two wires with light green and tan plugs
and the newer one wire antennas with a pink connector. I think that the H3 still uses the old two
wire kind. have seen those behind glove box.

All's not lost if your receiver has only one Sat antenna input but your car has two leads. There are spltters available that will combine the two leads into one. You'll have to hunt around on the internet to find them but they're there.

Some antennas have two leads out, one for Sat signal and the other for ground repeater signals. The antennas with one lead have the splitter already build into the antenna.
